President's Letter
As we enter the second month of social distancing and quarantine, I hope that this message finds you healthy and safe. While we've had to adjust to the "new normal" of on-line teaching, research, and administration, I think I speak for the majority when I say that it hasn't been an easy transition, especially for those who enjoy the intellectual exchange of the classroom. Yet, even during this difficult time the SCMS membership has shown its ingenuity and adaptability through an abundance of actions: from sharing on-line teaching tips via social media to donating and deferring conference registration fees in a show of support for the Society. Let me thank you for your generosity, especially when so many institutions are facing draconian cost-cutting measures that affect many of us personally. As well, thank you for the messages of encouragement and support you've sent over the recent weeks. Please keep them coming, and please remember to share any good news with us through #SCMSGoodNews. And finally, the SCMS staff continues to be invaluable in keeping the Society running, and I want to thank Erfana Enam, Margot Tievant, Mona Springfield, Molly Youngblood, and Leslie LeMond for their tireless work over the last six weeks. We do not know what the future will bring, but SCMS is as committed as ever to supporting our community, particularly our graduate students and those precariously employed, as much as we can. I hope to see you all in person in Chicago next year!

Be well,

Paula
