January is National Mentoring Month

On behalf of all SCORE's mentees, thank you for all you do to support small business owners and entrepreneurs throughout the year!

January is National Mentoring Month! In celebration, we will be highlighting the impact of SCORE mentors throughout the month. This is a great opportunity to showcase your local mentors too, by sharing why you choose to volunteer with SCORE, and your client success stories. Sharing these stories can help you in recruiting more mentors for your chapter.

For tips and templates on promoting National Mentoring Month, along with other upcoming events, check out the  Field Marketing Editorial Calendar  on the Volunteer Center.
Onboarding Program Monthly Webinars

On a monthly basis SCORE Headquarters' onboarding team hosts a webinar to share resources and answer questions. The next webinar, focused on helping chapters to implement the Onboarding Program is listed on the "Recruitment and Onboarding" page of the Volunteer Center. Once you are logged in to CORE/the Volunteer Center, click here. Webinar details are listed under "Onboarding Program Monthly Webinars."

Our next session will be held 12/13 at 1 p.m. ET. Can't make it? Don't worry,  you can still register to watch the recording at your convenience.
New CRM System Update

One of SCORE's top priorities remains delivering a better CRM system that enables you as volunteers to better serve your clients and manage your chapters.

We are in the midst of the Design portion of the project. We are designing the system around three major "journeys" through the system:
  1. Volunteer
  2. Mentoring
  3. Workshop
Once design for each journey is complete, we will begin active testing in March 2019. We are on track to start rolling out the system in Fall 2019.

We have been actively engaging an Early Adopter volunteer group to provide feedback on each portion of the journey designs. This group is made up of volunteer users of CORE in chapters across the country. They include
  • New York City
  • Akron OH
  • Charlotte NC
  • Santa Cruz CA
  • Central Wisconsin
  • Richmond VA
  • Buffalo
  • Volusia/Flagler
  • SE Minnesota
  • NW Arkansas
Here is some of the feedback we have received from the volunteers in that group so far:

"It is clear that tremendous thought went into the design and implementation strategy for how the new systems will work...Any questions around design/process have been clearly and logically explained, further validating the intent and thoughtfulness of the design."

"I feel very privileged to be involved in the Early adopters group meetings. The thoroughness and the openness of the group to propose (and get accepted) changes that enhance the processes is amazing. For the incoming volunteers the processes will be fluid and directed to the best resolution of volunteer on boarding."

SCORE Women's LinkedIn Group
Welcome to the SCORE women's volunteer Linkedin group. Your National Women's Committee has initiated this communication line so that we can collectively share our experiences, learn and mentor each other.

Although we are geared towards women's issues the chat room is open to all SCORE volunteers. Please join us as we strive to make SCORE a more inclusive and diverse culture. Let's start the conversation!

SCORE Training
Course 106 Empathy in Practice & Facilitation Guide

Lifelong Learning Matters. Great mentoring skills are the "secret sauce" of client engagement. Check out this module in  SCORE Training   to strengthen your mentoring skills.

In Empathy in Practice, volunteers learn more about drivers of client engagement, reflective listening, tactics for becoming a better listener, and emotional Intelligence. A facilitation guide to use with a group of volunteers is available for this module.

Diversity and Inclusion Update

Women's National Steering Committee - was formed in Oct, 2015 with the intention of assisting chapters of recruiting more women volunteers, mentor women within the organization and assist the chapters in creating and delivering events for women clients. Most recently, we have added two male volunteer leaders to our group, Gordon Magee and Harvey Finkel. We are hoping to gain much insight into the male perspective on these topics. Welcome Gordon and Harvey. Click here for the full roster of committee members.

Tips for Inclusion topics at Chapter Meetings - Each month we'll share a new "tip". Diversity and Inclusion should be discussed at each meeting, if only for a few minutes. Here are a couple of great conversation starter videos.
