EPA regulatory powers limited to surface waters, SCOTUS rules in Priest Lake case  

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled this week in favor of an Idaho couple who built a home on wetlands on their lot next to Priest Lake without a permit, in a decision with far-reaching consequences for how the Environmental Protection Agency can regulate waters across the country. 


“The Sacketts don’t dispute that they have wetlands on their property,” University of Idaho law professor Stephen Miller told Idaho Reports last year. “What they’re disputing is whether they’re within the jurisdiction of the Clean Water Act.”

Idahoans receiving TurboTax settlement payments

Idahoans who paid to file their taxes in 2017-2019 despite qualifying to file for free are receiving settlement payments from Intuit, the company behind TurboTax. Eligible customers qualify automatically for the check, and do not have to opt into the settlement.

Disability group to monitor state-run treatment center

The state of Idaho will pay $1.2 million and allow a disability rights group to monitor how patients are treated at a state-run center for people with developmental disabilities, ending four years of litigation between the state and six families of vulnerable Idahoans who were abused, neglected or died at the Southwest Idaho Treatment Center in Nampa.
