Expanded Genealogy Services
Beginning in July, Eva Lindsay SCPL’s resident Genealogy/Outreach Librarian will offer extended hours. She will be available on a first come first serve basis the 1st Tuesday of every month from 11:30 am until 8:00 pm and the 1st Saturday from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm to offer assistance with genealogy research. Research assistance is free but Library donations are accepted. 
The Genealogy and Local History room at the main library in Rockport holds materials on the history and inhabitants of Spencer County and surrounding counties in Indiana and Kentucky including the Lincoln family. The collection includes :
  • Microfilm of local newspapers
  • Early courthouse records
  • Indexes of deeds, marriages, deaths, wills and probate
  • Early Sanborn maps of Rockport, Chrisney and Dale
  • Census records of Spencer, Perry and Warrick counties
  • Variety of church records and histories including the Catholic Diocese of Spencer County
  • Large collection of Family Files and Histories: family group sheets, census copies, obituaries, or other materials donated or researched by staff.
  • Cemetery records
  • Obituary indexes from Spencer County papers for 1844-2011 and is a continuing work in progress.
  • Obituary Indexes to some Perry county, Warrick county and Huntingburg newspapers.
  • Local Yearbook Collection
  • Some Indiana / Spencer County Civil War Records

SCPL also offers online genealogy resources. These services are only available inside the Library.
Ancestry Library Edition is the world’s largest online family history resource.  Ancestry includes records from the United States Census; military records; court, land and probate records; vital and church records; directories; passenger lists and more.
Fold3™ by Ancestry provides convenient access to US military records, including the stories, photos and documents of the men and women who served. It contains millions of records from world-class archives, many of which are exclusively available on Fold3.
Summer Reading 2020: Imagine Your Story
Summer Reading continues through July 11th. We encourage you to track your reading progress using Beanstack . Instructions on how to download the app and use the program can be found here .
