United Community Bank Contributes $160,000 to SCRA
United Community Bank announced it is making a gift of $160,000 to the South Carolina Research Authority Industry Partnership Fund (IPF). This is the largest contribution SCRA has received from a bank in the IPF’s 15-year history. BrightMa Farms Builds Genetics Partnership With Swiss Hemp and Cannabis Research Company
BrightMa, an SCRA Member Company, linked up with Puregene, the breeding arm of Swiss cannabis company Pure Holding AG, in the first quarter of 2021. During the BrightMa team’s October visit, the two companies laid the foundation for a future partnership, Singletary said, in which Puregene will use its in-house science and technology to create hemp genetics, seeds, and clones that will be proprietary to BrightMa.

Now, the South Carolina grower aims to create a breeding hub on an 80-acre land tract in Orangeburg, S.C., called the BrightMa Innovation Center, where its team, alongside potential employees and interns from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) can research and develop various genetic traits for U.S. fiber, grain and cannabinoid hemp production. SCRA Team Presents at Mobile Leaders Exchange
Bob Quinn, SCRA Executive Director, presented to the crowd at the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce Leaders Exchange this week. The Leaders Exchange is a community and economic development focused trip conducted by the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce each year for the purpose of bringing together Mobile area decision makers, municipal and county government officials, and other community leaders to study how similar cities are tackling issues.
