Education Background:

I am currently in my last semester of undergraduate studies in Information and Library Science at the University of Maine at Augusta. [ed. note- She has been accepted to University at Albany's School of Information Science for a Master's Program!]

What was your work background before starting your LIS program?

I had worked as a library clerk at Guernsey Memorial Library in Norwich, NY, for two years before deciding to enroll in higher education. I have continued working there for the past 6 years.

What attracted you to the library profession?

The patrons. I enjoyed being a permanent fixture in the community. Seeing smiles from patrons, young and old, and hearing their stories, doing my best to assist them.

What type of library job do you see yourself in when you finish your program?

I had always thought I would love to be a library director and while that is still true, I have also been looking into outreach.

What projects are you working on at SCRLC?

I will be assisting with the Plan of Service, supporting outreach services and serving as a student liaison; attending board meetings. I am extremely excited to work on the development for the Underground Railroad exhibit.

What is one thing you would like to learn?

I am excited to learn the behind-the-scenes of library operation. I use LibGuides but I want to be able to make them and help create resources for others. I would like to learn more about organizing as I have only had some practice serving on committees.

Favorite web tools or websites:

I really enjoy ChatGPT. There is a lot of fear surrounding AI tools and while they do have cons, open AI can really assist us in our fields. I use it to help me recommend books, plan programs or work through tough situations.

What are your favorite hobbies?

I enjoy listening to podcasts, exploring new places, and playing the clarinet.
