DIRECTOR'S CUP

Cheery Friday Greetings!

There are two main topics for today: advisory committees and our annual meeting.

Advisory Committees. There are on-going opportunities to join our advisory committees. At the moment, all seven committees could use additional members.

Through participation, advisory committee members experience excellent networking opportunities while impacting regional and statewide programs, services, and policies.

Advisory committee members bring a voice from their institutional type to the table while they review and consider programs, services, and recommend policies that could benefit the entire region.

Advisory committee participation is open to all types of members. We especially need more representation from hospitals, schools, other special libraries, and historical societies/museums, though of course those of you from academic, public libraries/systems, community group members, and personal members are welcome, too! Committees generally meet via Zoom 4 to 6 times per year. Meetings run for an hour.

Here are the seven advisory committees:

If you are interested in joining an advisory committee, please reach out to any of the SCRLC ex officio staff members listed under Committee Members (you will see this information after clicking one of the above links).

Annual Meeting. We have extended the deadline to register for our annual meeting to Monday, October 23 at noon, which is when the caterer needs a final count. See below to register! Dr. Clarke’s workshop on the topic of librarian as a design profession will be engaging and interactive—and not limited to librarianship. There will be takeaways for all types of members, including hospitals and historical societies. We hope you will join us!

While masking is not required, many people continue to do so—we want you to feel comfortable attending an in-person event. There is also a terrace adjoining our room at the Museum of the Earth, and participants are welcome to have their lunch out there. Of course, the forecast is 7 days out, but it could be 60 and without rain! We do hope to see you, sunshine, clouds, or rain!

Yours in partnership,

Mary-Carol Lindbloom

Executive Director

MEMBER NEWS

Congratulations to Wells College for being awarded a 5-year, $2.25 million Title III grant. "The Title III Strengthening Institutions Program is designed to help eligible institutions 'expand their capacity to serve low-income students by providing funds to improve and strengthen academic quality, institutional management, and fiscal stability.'”

Ithaca College Library has created a DEIJA LibGuide to share some of the projects that they are working on as part of the DEI consulting grant they received to work with Dr. Kawanna Bright. Their projects include collection development (i.e. purchasing materials by and about historically underrepresented groups, medical textbooks with more racial diversity); improving cataloging and placement of LGBTQ library materials, and updating policies.

After renovations, Tompkins County Public Library back to full service with added Sunday hours.

Broome County Public Library is hosting a hybrid (virtual and in person) queer coffee hour event with author Hugh Ryan on Tuesday, October 24th. Register here.

The Corning Museum of Glass is hosting a free, hybrid event entitled Disclosure: The Whiteness of Glass on Thursday, November 9th.
