Spring 2024 Edition

Dear SCS Alums,

We are so excited to share our Spring edition of the SCS Alumni Newsletter! As we prepare for the miracle of Easter, we invite you to join us for Holy Week and Easter at SCS. We've included the schedule of all events below. We also want to invite you to get involved in the Parish if you are not already. Our Parish Ministries have grown to serve all of our parishioners from young adults to prime timers. Take a look at the link below and explore all the ways you can get involved at St. Catherine.

As we enter the 4th quarter of this school year, we wanted to update you on the progress we've made on the new Convent since we communicated back in December. We are making great progress and the plan is for the Sisters to move in this summer in preparation for the new school year. We look forward to welcoming the Sisters to our faculty and know that having them on our campus will be a blessing for us all.

Our Forward in Faith Capital Campaign is still in full swing as we look toward the 100th anniversary of St. Catherine of Siena School's founding. Our vision will put into practice all of the wonderful plans that allow our parish to continue its legacy of encountering Jesus, igniting hearts and transforming the world. If you haven't donated, please consider making a donation. No amount is too small... our goal is to get 100% participation in our community.

In this issue you will find information about the following:

  • Easter at SCS
  • Update on New Convent & Forward in Faith Campaign
  • 100% High School Acceptance of Class of 2024
  • 2024 SCSMC Crawfish Cookoff
  • Generational Gators - multi-generational families at SCS
  • Alumni Highlights
  • Distinguished Graduate

We hope you enjoy the following update and look forward to sharing more with you in the coming editions. We wish you all a blessed and joyous Easter.

Update on New Convent

The New Convent for the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia is coming along nicely. A LOT has happened since our Winter Newsletter: the roof, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, exterior doors, exterior windows, and insulation work have all been completed. The convent passed inspections and the interior sheetrock and exterior brick work has begun! We are ahead of schedule in getting the convent completed by May / June. The sisters will move in during July in preparation for teaching in August!

THANK YOU to everyone who is making this first phase of our Forward in Faith Campaign possible!

Jack Walker ('19)

SCS alumnus, Jack Walker ’19 was the recipient of the Judy Stewart Social Justice Award, given out to a Brother Martin student, and was nominated by his peers, faculty, and staff.

Brother Martin Campus Minister, Mr. Donnie Midkiff, Jr., stated that “Jack promotes solidarity both on and off campus. Through his work with the Crusaders for Life and Justice and the Student Ministry Team, he embodies St. Francis’s call to preach the gospel.” In addition, one of his classmates said, “He is an inspiration to me and pushes his peers to get out into the community to help those in need.”

We are so proud of Jack and his selfless service to others.
