Summer 2024 Edition

Dear SCS Alums,

We are so excited to share our Summer edition of the SCS Alumni Newsletter! Our campus is busy with new school year prep, summer camp and ongoing improvements to our almost 100 year old campus.

As we enter July, we look forward to welcoming the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia to our community and faculty. We can't wait for them to arrive and show them our SCS hospitality. We know that having the Sisters on our campus will be a blessing for us all.

Our Forward in Faith Capital Campaign is still in full swing. Our vision will put into practice all of the wonderful plans that allow our parish to continue its legacy of encountering Jesus, igniting hearts and transforming the world. If you haven't donated, please consider making a donation. No amount is too small... our goal is to get 100% participation in our community.

The Favret family has been an integral part of St. Catherine of Siena parish for almost 8 decades. In 1957, a new St. Catherine of Siena church was completed on the corner of Bonnabel and Metairie Road by parishioner, Lionel F. Favret's construction company. Lionel's grandson, Charley Favret, attended St. Catherine of Siena School and graduated the same year church construction was completed.

All four of Charley's children graduated from SCS, the youngest, Ryan Favret, graduated in 1998.

Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Charley started his own construction company and completed major renovations on the church that his grandfather built. Those renovations were completed in 2003.

Charley's grandchildren are now leaving their legacy at SCS. Two of his grandchildren have graduated, just like their mother and grandfather before them. His youngest grandson is starting SCS in PK4 in August.

The Favret family is sure to leave an enduring legacy as the 5th generation enjoys the future of SCS and is sure to help celebrate its 100 year anniversary.

Congratulations to the following SCS Alums who were named Valedictorians & Salutatorians of their high school Class of 2024

During Brother Martin's 2024 Leadership and Graduation ceremonies, two SCS alums, Joshua Cook & Jack Walker, were honored as recipients of special awards

Joshua Cook (SCS ‘19)

• Golden Crusader*
• Patriotism Award
• Christian Leadership Award award is presented to the graduate selected as outstanding in Christian leadership.

Jack Walker (SCS '19)

• Golden Crusader*
• Gayle B. and Tom M. Benson, Jr. SA Award award is presented to the graduate who exemplifies qualities close to the heart of the Benson family, including a strong appreciation for the value of education, exemplary academic progress, and a love of learning, all underscored by strong Christian values.

*The Golden Crusader is presented to the members of the senior class who are judged by the faculty and administration to have displayed outstanding characteristics of what it means to be a Brother Martin student and who embody in extraordinary ways the values of Brother Martin High School.

During Jesuit's 2024 Commencement ceremony, SCS alum, Luke Couret, was honored as the recipient of a special award

SCS Alumnus Luke Couret (SCS '19) received The Julia Ferguson McEnerny Memorial Trophy, honors the senior who has a good scholastic record, actively participated in co-curricular activities, and possesses those qualities which symbolize “the most representative student of Jesuit High School.”

SCS Alumnus ('16) Ethan Jeanes was recently in the news for his assistance in a rescue mission in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico near Galveston.
