Dear SCS Community,

Please join us for our annual State of the School address on Tuesday, January 15 located in the Barrett. We will hold two sessions, one at 8:00 am and the other at 6:00 pm . The purpose of this meeting is to review the mission, to share the vision of the school by reviewing long-term and short-term goals, and to answer any questions our parents may have. We hope you are able to attend next week!

Sincerely,
Kimberlie Haik Kilroy
Happy New Year St. Catherine Family! With each new year we make resolutions to improve ourselves. Let's start off 2019 by helping the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society raise money to support their mission. Spread God's Word by your actions!

A note from the CRE: Pasta for Pennies Starts Next Week!

Starting next week, St Catherine of Siena School will be taking part in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Pasta for Pennies. Pasta for Pennies will run Jan 16 - 25.  During this program, students will collect funds to support LLS’s mission: cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

How we can help:
Our support will be helping to fund cancer research, patient support, and advocacy. Here’s how we will help:
1.        Students will be given their own personal collection box to collect donations from family members and friends.
2.        Students can also create their own Pasta for Pennies online giving page by going to https://events.lls.org/pages/msla/St-Catherine-Of-Siena-School-Metairie-2019 clicking “Join a Classroom Team”. They can share their online link with family members and friends to raise donations online too. Any student that raises $50 or more on their online page will earn an LLS T-Shirt
3.        Students can also do service activities at home too (start a lemonade stand or do extra chores around the house for donations).
4.        There will be classroom competitions with rewards for the homerooms with the most donations.
5.        Dress down day on Friday January 25 th with a $1 donation. (Wear Red )

Our school goal:
Last year, St Catherine of Siena School was the 4 th place fundraising school in the Mississippi/Louisiana Chapter, and we would love to be in the Top 10 this year too! We have set a school goal to raise $9,000 . So, we would love to see each classroom set a personal goal to raise $100, $200 or $300 to be a Bronze, Silver or Gold Champion. We would love to see students set their own personal goal too. Any student that raises $5 (online or offline) will earn a cool Hero Squad Power Ring !

50 State Online Giving Challenge: Let’s create a world without blood cancers by seeing if we can get an online donation from every state in the US. Send your online giving page to friends and family across the country to help support our Pasta for Pennies!

On December 29, 2018, Sr. Imelda Moriarty died at the age of 94. She was buried on January 3, 2019 in San Antonio, TX. To honor the life and the ministry of Sr. Imelda, St. Catherine of Siena Parish will be celebrating a Memorial Mass on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 6 pm in the Church. There will be a reception immediately following Mass in the Barrett Complex. Everyone is invited to take part in the celebration.

In lieu of flowers, if anyone would like to make a donation in Sr. Imelda’s name, please send them to St. Catherine of Siena, 105 Bonnabel Blvd., Metairie, LA 70005. All donations will be used to help restore the school’s playground which she was instrumental in getting built.

If you would like to help with the reception or if you are a former faculty member and would like to participate in the Mass, please contact Peggy Fisk ( leafisk@aol.com ).
