Synod Staff Update

Dear Partners in Ministry,

Please see below for a message from Rev. Jen Christenson, Associate to the Bishop for Candidacy and Community. I share this message with a combination of both regret and joy as Rev. Christenson moves into a new role within the ELCA.

In Christ,

Bishop Joy Mortensen-Wiebe

Dear Partners in Ministry,

I am writing to share with you that I have accepted the position of Candidacy and Leadership Manager for Region 5 and, as such, am resigning my role as Associate to the Bishop for Candidacy and Community.

Although I am looking forward to stepping into this new position, it was a very difficult decision to leave such an incredible synod, staff, and call. Bishop Joy has been an outstanding and wise mentor, and I am greatly appreciative of the opportunity to be a part of her staff. It was, in fact, on Bishop Joy’s recommendation that I put my name forward for the Candidacy and Leadership Manager position. Even knowing this could result in the departure of a valued member of her staff, Bishop Joy offered support and guidance throughout my discernment. For that, I am truly grateful.

I have also tremendously enjoyed serving with my colleagues – the SCSW is served by a dedicated and compassionate team who care deeply for the synod’s congregations, leaders and ministries, and our shared work. Beyond that, our camaraderie and genuine care for one another have truly been a gift.

Bishop Joy, the synod staff, and the synod council are working on transition plans and will be communicating more as those plans come into clearer focus.

My last day in the office will be December 23. Thank you again for your warm welcome and for the opportunity to serve alongside you these past few years. God bless you as you move forward into the new future God has prepared for you.

In Christ,

Rev. Jen Christenson,

Associate to the Bishop for Candidacy and Community
