SCTC Students of Distinction for December | |
Congratulations to Elijah Eisentrout, SCTC's AM December Student of Distinction!
Elijah is a Senior at Meyersdale Area High School and is in the SCTC Health Occupations program. He was nominated by his instructor Mrs. Carissa Sanner.
“Elijah is an outstanding, well-rounded student. Here at SCTC, he is always helpful, positive, and eager to learn,” said Mrs. Sanner. “He is positive about learning, hard-working, eager to assist others, and inquisitive about new topics of discussion. Elijah takes pride in participating in SCTC organizations - SkillsUSA and SADD - as well as activities at his sending district. Throughout Elijah’s high school career, he has maintained high grades while being a member of the Meyersdale football and wrestling teams.”

Congratulations to Jillian Donia, SCTC's PM December Student of Distinction!
Jillian is a Senior at North Star Area High School and is in the SCTC Cosmetology program. She was nominated by her instructor Mrs. Jessie Younkin.
“Jillian excels not only in theory but also in her lab skills. Based on Jillian’s grades, attendance, and ambition, I would rate her academic performance in class as exceptional,” said Mrs. Younkin. “She always shows up on time and is dependable. She has proven her abilities in the classroom with organizational skills and extra work. Jillian has a great work ethic in the cosmetology classroom and is a natural leader. She will be in the SkillsUSA District Competition in Esthetics this month.”
Jillian is the SkillsUSA Vice President, Cosmetology Class President, and is a peer leader for the Sources of Strength group. She competed last year in SkillsUSA in the Esthetician portion and won 1st place which advanced her to the state competition.

SkillsUSA District 9 Competition | |
Congratulations to the SCTC SkillsUSA District 9 competitors! Competitions were held at Mon Valley CTC, Central Westmoreland CTC, Greater Johnstown CTC and one contest was held locally at SCTC. SCTC walked away with 7 bronze, 4 silver, and 11 gold medals. SCTC will be sending the gold medal winners and eight other contestants that received a BYE for their district competition to the State Leadership and Skills Conference (SLSC) in Hershey, PA, April 3-5, 2024. SCTC is also eligible to send three other students as State Delegates to the SLSC. At Hershey, students will compete with the winners from districts throughout the state. The first place, gold medal winners at Hershey will then compete at the National level in Atlanta, GA, June 24-28, 2024.

Marshalltown Recognizes Outstanding Students | |
Congratulations to the first quarter outstanding students! Noah Walker, sophomore from Berlin, earned the award for the Construction Trades class. Isaac Geiger, sophomore from Meyersdale, earned the award from the Masonry class. Each student received a brick trowel, a cap, and a frameable certificate courtesy of the Marshalltown Company. | |
Exchange Club Recognizes SCTC Students | |
At a luncheon at the Somerset Country Club, two SCTC students were recognized by the Somerset Exchange Club for their outstanding achievements and exceptional performance: Emily Phillips and Jillian Donia.
Emily Phillips is a Senior at Somerset High School and in the SCTC Health Occupations program where she is class Vice President. She is a member of the Swim Club, FFA, SkillsUSA, and SADD. Emily plans to pursue a career in Nursing and has already been accepted into the Nursing program at University of Pittsburgh - Greensburg.
Jillian Donia is a Senior at North Star High School and in the SCTC Cosmetology program where she is class President. Jillian is the SkillsUSA Vice President and is a peer leader for the Sources of Strength group.

SCTC Practical Nursing Class Celebrates! | |
The SCTC Practical Nursing program got out and about celebrating the season by caroling with their own special medical version of a Christmas Classic: Twelve Different Cranial Nerves. | |
Another celebration in Practical Nursing - Laura Buxton was awarded the Student of the Level, Level 1 - Excellence Award. Congratulations, Laura! | |
Evening Welding Class Starting in February | |
Coming in early 2024: Basic Welding Technology Class. The course will cover basic safety/theory/metallurgy, basic measuring/blueprint reading/weld symbols, handheld plasma and oxy-fuel (manual cutting), MIG, FSAW.
To register, please call the main office at 814-443-3651 and use either extension 6165 or 6156. If you prefer, you can stop in at the SCTC office for an application at 281 Technology Drive, Somerset.
Dates: February 19 - May 2 (No class March 20/27/28, April 1)
Days: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday
Time: 4pm-8pm
Length: 116 hours total
Cost: $1200 + student expenses for safety equipment
