SCTPO Adopts Regional Resiliency Action Plan
In 2017, with the help of over 50 steering committee members, the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council set out to create a Regional Resiliency Action Plan (RRAP) for the areas of Brevard and Volusia County. The purpose of the RRAP was to define resilience, discuss sea level rise curve recommendations, create goals and objectives to mold our region into a more resilient community, and outline steps to be worked on in the next 5 years.

What does it mean to be resilient? Resiliency, as defined by the RRAP, is the capacity of individuals, communities, institutions, businesses, and systems within the region to plan, sustain, adapt, recover, improve, and grow collaboratively – regardless what kind of chronic stresses and acute shocks they experience – through specific actions and implementation strategies geared to address specific vulnerabilities.

Having a resilient and sustainable transportation system is vital in helping our community be prepared and bounce back from any shocks and stressors that may occur. The Space Coast TPO through legislation such as the FAST Act, and now with adopting the RRAP on March 14, 2019, hopes to aide its region in developing a resilient transportation system for all modes of travel.
