Space Coast TPO Kicks Off Bicycle Pedestrian Master Plan
The  Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization  (SCTPO) is currently in the process of developing the 2018 Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP).

The purpose of this plan is to create a connected system of bicycling and pedestrian facilities that serve the needs of Brevard County’s residents and visitors. Help us understand the bicycle, pedestrian, and trail needs of our county. Access the survey  here  or click the image on the right.
SCTPO, Brevard Public Schools Partner to Celebrate Walk to School Day
We're less than two weeks out from Walk to School Day! So far, we have 37   Brevard Public Schools registered for activities. What's your local school doing to celebrate on October 10, 2018? See what schools are celebrating .

Walk to School Day is designed to remind both parents and students about the pleasure of walking to school and how simple one-day events can led to great changes in the community.

Safe Routes to School Program - Now Accepting Project Applications
The SCTPO would like to encourage agencies to consider if your community is in need of creating safer conditions for students to walk and bike to school. Safe Routes to School projects could include crosswalk markings, ADA sidewalk ramps, filling in of sidewalk gaps, bike racks, and more!  

Program Highlights:
  • Applications are due to FDOT by 01/31/19

  • $7 Million is available each year statewide

  • Please use the Safe Ways to School Tool Kit that can be downloaded here

  • Please use the Prioritization Tool, which can be found here

  • The TPO is an available resource to you throughout the application process. We're available to help in gathering information and to meet as needed. We want the applications to be as successful as possible. 

  • There is the possibility of “bundling” several small projects during implementation.

  • If more than one application is submitted, please rank them in priority order (limit 5 applications per maintaining agency).

To be eligible, municipalities must have attended a workshop in 2017 or 2018. Next workshop date details:

SCTPO Executive Director Speaks to Indialantic Rotary Club
On September 19, 2018, Georganna Gillette, SCTPO Executive Director, presented to the Indialantic Rotary Club on the basics of transportation planning and how citizens can get involved. The group of about 40 members asked great questions about new traffic features, long-term projects, and the future of transportation.
Event Spotlight : What moves you and how do you get from here, to there? The Space Coast TPO Space Coast Area Transit   and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) are set to celebrate the third annual Mobility Week, from October 27 to November 3, 2018 .
Mobility Week initiative is a grassroots effort to promote awareness of safe and sustainable transportation choices and how those choices can build stronger communities, reduce traffic congestion and improve community health.
Indian Harbour Beach Police Department Recognizes Students
Kudos to the City of Indian Harbour's Police Department who is taking the time to recognize local students thru positive incentives, by rewarding best safety practices.

Brothers, Brock and Kai, always wear helmets, obey safety procedure, and they are always polite.

They are setting a positive example to the other kids at the crosswalk each day.
New Space Coast Area Transit Route Services Heritage-West Melbourne
Space Coast Area Transit's new Route 20 services Heritage-West Melbourne. The bus departs from the Melbourne Square Mall bus stop at 25 minutes after the hour, where it also connects with Routes 21B, 25B, and 28B on weekdays. Route 20 operates from 6:25 AM to 8:20 PM, Monday through Friday, and from 8:20 AM to 5:20 PM, on Saturday.
Promise in Brevard, a new residential community, is a featured stop along the route. “Promise in Brevard is a place where young adults with special needs can live a life of opportunities and freedom never thought possible," stated Pat Rush, Residential Services Coordinator. “Offering our residents transportation opportunities through Space Coast Area Transit’s Route 20 helps make this dream a reality.” Other locations along the route include Field of Dreams, Hammock Landing, Heritage High School, Goodwill, the Greyhound Station on SR 192, and numerous other locations.  Route 20 also utilizes St. John’s Heritage Parkway. 
“We have had the opportunity to work closely with County Commissioner Isnardi and her constituents in planning the launch of Route 20. We have been receiving requests to provide transit service in this area for many years,” stated Scott Nelson, Director of Space Coast Area Transit. “The support of the County Commission and FDOT allows us to provide mobility options through Route 20 to non-profits, businesses, residents and high school students in this previously underserved Palm Bay-West Melbourne corridor.”

Photo Feature : Volusia County celebrated the opening of its 20.2 mile phase of the Florida East Central Regional Rail Trail. This phase includes two segments: one that runs from Gobblers Lodge Road to Maytown Spur Road, and another that extends from the Brevard County line north of Cow Creek, where it connects to existing trail and the pedestrian overpass on State Road 442. With the completion of this segment, Volusia County has a total of 58.7 miles of trails that stretch through cities and rural areas.
Event Spotlight : Join the  Space Coast TPO and   Adventure HQ   in celebrating Mobility Week with a fun-filled morning full of bicycle safety courses during an on-site rodeo. Participants will receive a certificate of completion, which will also grant them a discounted entrance fee to Adventure HQ for the day. Registration required, first come first serve. Suitable for elementary-aged children.
