City Trying to Negotiate Buyout of Billboards  
Santa Clarita officials have been trying to negotiate a buyout of "46 billboard structures and associated lease rights located along Newhall Avenue, Railroad Avenue, Bouquet Canyon Road, Soledad Canyon Road, Sand Canyon Road and Sierra Highway" - and they'll be discussing it behind closed doors just prior to a public airing of the issue at Tuesday night's City Council meeting.

Wrong-Way Crash Suspect to be Tried for Murder
Bradford Pate, 38, of Burbank, has been ordered to stand trial for murder for his alleged role in a wrong-way crash on Highway 14 in Agua Dulce that killed two people and injured others last June.

JPL Exposes Future Astronauts to Mars  
Representatives from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory at Caltech in Pasadena satiated the curiosity of some 1,500 kids across the SCV this week as they brought their hands-on education program into local schools. Friday it was Christ Lutheran Preschool's turn. JPL's Dennis Young says it's this generation - kids in preschool and kindergarten today - who will likely be the first to set foot on the Red Planet.

Mustangs Open 3-Game Series with 8-6 Win
Tyler Krahn's groundout in the fifth inning put The Master's College ahead for good, and Jason and Steve Karkenny combined for five strong innings as the 12th-ranked Mustangs outlasted Arizona Christian 8-6 in Friday's opener. They square off in a doubleheader today in Phoenix.

When you're running for reelection and your family is in the business of manufacturing vinyl records, it stands to reason that you might find a way to use LP records as campaign materiel. Well, maybe not today, but in 1972. That's what the Committee to Re-elect Jim Keysor did when Keysor defended his Assembly seat in a rematch with the same man he turned out of office two years earlier - another local businessman, Hank Arklin.
