TOGETHER,  SHAPING THE FUTURE.

Dear Friends of JA:

Magical moments are created every day at our McGrath Family JA Biz Town.  The thriving mini-city is home to more than 16,000 fifth graders, each year as they discover how to start and run a profitable business.  This month was even more memorable because students got an unexpected visit from two very special guests.

Thanks to the generous support of One San Diego, students from Kimbrough Elementary got a chance to work alongside Honorable Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer.  The San Diego Mayor was officially sworn in by our 5th grade Judge and was presented with a "Key to the City" by the JA BizTown Mayor.

Kimbrough students were not the only ones who received a surprise visit.  Students from Daniel Boone Elementary were delighted by the surprise visit from the "real" Chairman and CEO from Jack-in-the-Box,  Lenny Comma.

As we close out an incredible 2015- 2016 school year, I am proud to announce we are on track to reach 61,000 students this year.

If you have made a difference by volunteering for JA, we would like to thank you and celebrate our successful year at our Volunteer Appreciation Party Thursday, July 21.   The party will be hosted at the JA office in mission Valley.  Please RSVP toLaura Bagheri

San Diego Mayor Visits McGrath Family JA BizTown

"Being the Mayor is really hard and a bit stressful," said acting JA BizTown Mayor Ismerail Barragan, a 5th grader at Kimbrough Elementary. "You have to sign everyone's paychecks and make sure they are doing their job, so it was neat to meet the real Mayor and ask him what to do when everyone is on break."

"Students don't often have the opportunity to see what many adults do in their day-to-day professions," said Poway teacher Rodger Dohm.  "Therefore, they greatly appreciated the opportunity to interact with these leading professionals on their home-turf."

Wells Fargo JA Day
Corporate volunteers from Wells Fargo delivered JA's financial literacy program to over 400 students at Lexington Elementaryin El Cajon.  During the JA Day programs, students learned about financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship.

"I love that there is a program like Junior Achievement that connects the business community to the real world learning for our students," said Josh Van Norman, Assistant Principal at Lexington Elementary in El Cajon. "The kids light up when they see business professionals enter their classrooms.  The JA Day program lays the foundation for economic success for the kids and teaches them to dream bigger, and that's pretty amazing."
