"Give every day the chance to become the most beautiful day of your life." Mark Twain

Dear Southern Door Community,

Tomorrow, June 20th is the summer solstice or beginning of summer at 10:30pm. Much is made of this day as it is the longest day of the year. While some of you may be struggling these days to have your children understand that even though it is light outside, it is indeed time for bed, the rest of us relish those long hours of daylight and the extra opportunities to do the things we love.

How appropriate that the longest day of the year in 2021 is also Father’s Day. To all the dads, uncles, brothers, grandpas or anyone that is a father figure to others, we thank you for the special part you have in the lives of our students, our families, and our community.

This past week, we hosted the national Camp Invention with over 70 campers from several districts and summer school began in high school. This coming week, our first of two elementary summer school sessions will take place.

We also saw our successful baseball and softball team's seasons come to end after some hard-fought battles in the regional playoffs. The same is true for many of our outstanding track & field student athletes as they finished their sectional yesterday afternoon at Fox Valley Lutheran this weekend. Congratulations to Hailey Shimon, who now advances as the sole SD student athlete this spring to state in the discus throw! Our student athletes continue to be recognized with all-conference honors! We are Eagle Proud of all of their accomplishments!

Yours in Education,
Patti
