"The greatness of a community is most accurately measured
by the compassionate actions of its members." Coretta Scott King

Dear Southern Door Community,
This past weekend, we witnessed the "big reveal" of the community's generosity that was collected by our fifth graders' service project for the CP Telethon. As of this newsletter's writing, we did not have the final amount, but on Sunday it was around $40,000.

Last night, we also had our first "virtual" STEAM family night in the elementary. It was great to see over 70 families on our Google meet! One of the features included a presentation by Therma-Tron-X regarding the design process. Another was by Melissa and DK Kloida, a Southern Door family, with their DENN business on County DK near the school. Click on this link to access their video.

Speaking of "virtual," don't forget to get your tickets for the video premiere performance of the high school musical, Hello, My Baby (see details below) that airs next Friday through Sunday. Brady Tooley, Dale Swanson, and Mackenzie Finger joined musical director, Mrs. Weydt and principal, Mr. Bousley on today's WDOR show. Everyone did a fantastic job of explaining how they coped with all the challenges presented by doing a musical during the pandemic.

As we round the turn to the final quarter of the school year, let us be reminded that success, for each of us, is really in the journey we take together. With everyone working so hard to stay safe and healthy, we have been able to be in school every day this year, and are accomplishing great things! It takes everyone's effort to help our children be the best they can be, as Eagle Proud and Eagle Strong!

Yours in Education,
Patricia Vickman, Superintendent

March Madness Maplewood Food Pantry Drive
SD Middle School Student Council is sponsoring a March Madness Maplewood food drive. It will be a great way to give back to the community, and do something fun as a middle school. Items that are most helpful to the pantry include: boxed milk, canned foods with pop tops, tea bags, coffee, tuna, crackers, sugar, flour, cake mix with frosting, oil, dishwashing detergent, hygiene products, Stove Top stuffing, spices and salt and pepper. Other items such as spaghetti and sauce, Mac and cheese, Hamburger Helper, and soups are welcome as well. If anyone would want to donate, you can drop any of the listed goods off in front of the middle school office starting Friday, March 5th through the end of March.
Door County's Outstanding Teen Reads to Elementary

For Read Across America Day, SD Junior, Kaylee Griep, Miss Door County Outstanding Teen, gave virtual presentations to the 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and 4th graders! She was able to read them one of her favorite books, Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon. Using a balloon as a reference, she then did a presentation on her platform, “Building Self Esteem.”
Youth & Middle School Wrestling Find Success at State
Southern Door youth and middle school wrestling was well represented at this weekend’s WWF Kid Folkstyle State Championships in Wisconsin Dells, as 18 competed for state titles. Top finishers were Jonah LeFevre taking 2nd place in the Boys 2012-2013 / 57 lbs. division, and Sydney Turner taking 6th place in the Girls 2008-2009 / 125 lbs. division. Nearly all Eagles wrestlers notched at least one win against stiff competition and gained some great experience in this very challenging season. Great job Eagles!
Due to Covid-19 there are no in-person performances.
Individuals must go online and purchase the ticket themselves at $10 each. Patrons can buy tickets at

Are you a fan of The Haunted Mansion?? For 14 years, this school wide fundraising event has raised over $350,000 for PreK-12 student programs in the Southern Door County School District. In order to be able to continue this annual event, we are seeking NEW CORE TEAM MEMBERS.
VOLUNTEER leadership vacancies include: project manager, lead carpenter, scenic designer, marketing/public relations, coordinator of volunteers, special effects/technical director, and costume/make-up assistant director.
Work begins in July and wraps up in mid-November. It’s been an incredible 14 years, but if The Haunted Mansion is to continue, a NEW core team is needed.

The DEADLINE TO REPLY WITH YOUR INTEREST IS MONDAY, MARCH 22. Please email interest to current co-project manager, Cory Vandertie, Depending on our ability to fill the CORE TEAM positions, we hope to make an official announcement about the future of The Haunted Mansion in early April.
In response to COVID-19, the Door County Wine and Cheese Gala will be virtual for 2021. While we know this is disappointing for many, it is the best alternative for a fun and safe evening together while supporting students through scholarships and funding for leadership development events.
The best part about this year’s gala will be the short lines and comfortable seating as you enjoy your favorite bottle of wine and variety of cheese from the comfort of your home to watch the drawing on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at 7 p.m. Join us on Facebook Live:
No account needed to view the live stream drawing.
To view the baskets being raffled, visit the Door County Wine & Cheese Gala. The drawing for baskets will be conducted sequentially starting with Basket 1. Each ticket purchased is valid for all baskets until that ticket is drawn. Please note that all sales are final.
