"Education is the key to unlocking the world,
a passport to freedom." Oprah Winfrey
   .
Dear Southern Door Community,

When one considers the above quote, we reflect on how different education is now compared to when we went to school. The world is at our students' fingertips, and they have so many more opportunities to not only learn content and apply skills, but more importantly to be solution seekers, and develop their collaboration with others, their critical thinking, and their creativity!

This week we had the privilege of showcasing some of the above opportunities when Ann Hyra, Business and Community Development Grants Manager and Dawn Olson, Marketing Manager of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) visited our district. The district received four grants from WEDC over the past 5 years and WEDC staff were interested in seeing how Southern Door has developed a PreK-12 program. Their experience has been that many other grant recipients focus only on high school Fab Labs, so they were impressed with how our program spans from elementary to middle to high school. Hyra sent the team a note of appreciation which stated: "This was a wonderful opportunity to see what your district has accomplished with the Fab Lab Program and we truly appreciate the fact that the program ranges from K-12 . You should be very proud of this! Your staff rocks it!"

As the school year draws to a close with just one more week of school, please take time to savor the "journey" you and your child have experienced this year! Whether your child is one of our youngest or our oldest students, it is evident how important the partnership we have with you is in helping your child reach both their individual goals, as well as those of our school community. It is, indeed, our core values and our traditions which define us as a school community - from generation to generation!

It truly does take a village to educate children, and our collective teamwork came together to support all of our students in their accomplishments and yes, even the pandemic challenges we all faced this year. Our journey this year is what makes Southern Door stand out from all the other schools and why we are Eagle Proud and Eagle Strong!

Yours in Education,
Patti

The Southern Door Trap League just finished its first season as a school-affiliated sport and was a “smashing success” with 28 middle & high school students participating. Each student that participated received a Wisconsin State High School Clay Target League patch. The overall high gun for the season was Jacob Fritschler with an average of 22.33. 🌟

The success of this program was due to the school's providing students with this opportunity to try a sport that they can enjoy for a lifetime. Students’ 6th -12th grade participated. Without the inspiration and dedication of Kim Welch as head coach, and the Gardner Rifle Club’s aweso,e support, none of this would have been possible! We also would like to thank the following for their contributions: Beth Jeurink, Bryon Geisel, and Jacob VandenPlas (certified coaches); Linda Bunge (Covid screener); and Sue Fritschler (trap secretary) for all their time and effort. The club also appreciated the tremendous support from the parents of students involved.

Some of the students shot in both the Door County Youth Trap League as well as the Southern Door County District League. The two leagues combined for an end of the year FUN SHOOT. Top guns for the FUN SHOOT were: perfect scores of 25 were earned by Tyler Plzak with dad as his buddy and Trevin Veeser with dad as his buddy with another perfect score of 25; scores of 24 were earned by Lily Czoske with her buddy Coach Beth and Logan Blasier with Grandpa Gary Gould. To add to the celebration, the club would like to thank Econo Foods and Fish Farm & Game for the food and refreshments.
PROM COURTS' CHARITY SOFTBALL GAME
In lieu of a dance, Southern Door County School District sponsored a Charity
Softball Game for Prom 2021. The Senior Prom Court, whose prom was cancelled last year, versus the Junior Prom court with all proceeds going towards our local food pantry. The students, as they always do, brought high levels of excitement, talent, and fun, while the community surrounded them with support and compassion for the cause.

The prom courts' event collected $51.00 in cash as well as over 20 bags of non-perishable food items! Students pictured from left to right are the Junior Prom King & Queen, Brandon Kaczmarek & Andrea Vandertie and 2020 Prom Queen & King, Lydiah LeCloux & Dale Swanson who delivered the community donations with Advisor, Ms. Teska and Principal, Mr. Bousley to Feed My People, Food Pantry Coordinator, Ashley Madson.
