"Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it all into words is all that is necessary.” Margaret Cousins"
Dear Southern Door Community
From time to time we are reminded that the things that are known as the "Southern Door way" we sometimes take for granted until we view them through other people's eyes. Here are just a few examples of what was shared with me this past week:
--A parent sharing that their family's first year at Southern Door has been wonderful and that they are so impressed with our school community;
–A new, yet experienced, staff member sharing their delight at being a part of our school;
--Our Big Brothers Big Sisters program was featured on the Northeast Wisconsin BBBS virtual breakfast this week featuring our own Brady Tooley who was matched as a Little Brother 7 years ago and now as a senior, is a Big Brother to one of our elementary students;
--The expertise and compassion of our office clerical and nursing staff whose busy lives now include assisting children, staff, parents, and families as they try to cope with the impacts of the COVID-19 virus;
--The outreach from some grandparents to share how please they are with the growth of their 3-year old grandson in the early childhood program;
--Our football team’s going undefeated thus far and making great strides as coaches and student athletes following health & safety protocols to keep their sports season going; and
--A community member sharing how impressed they are with the wonderful job Southern Door staff is doing keeping school in session and educating children both on-site and virtually.
The list could go on and on;.
I marvel at the high quality work our staff do day in and day out each week, especially this year as they navigate the world of virtual learning along with the instruction provided on-site with our students. What an awesome responsibility we have, and an awesome privilege we have as well to educate the children in our community. We appreciate your continued support and partnership with us for it is what makes us Eagle Proud and Eagle Strong!

SD SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS GO EXTRA MILE FOR KIDS
National School Bus Safety Week is an active and evolving public education program and an excellent way for parents, students, teachers, motorists, school bus operators, school administrators, and other interested parties - to join forces and address the importance of school bus safety. Designed to promote school bus safety, school districts throughout the country observe School Bus Safety Week.
Please join us in thanking our district's bus drivers for "going the extra mile" to safely get our students to and from school each day!

WHAT WILL THE REFERENDUM FUNDS BE USED FOR?
The School District's Operational Referendum seeks $975,000 for each of the next three years. If approved these funds will support the day-to-day operation of a school district, including updating curriculum, supporting student needs, keeping technology up to date, maintaining programs & services, and having sufficient wages to attract and retain teachers and staff.
The last operational referendum passed by the community in 2018 expired June 30, 2020? A successful school referendum results in no increase to the 🦅Southern Door School District’s projected tax mill rate. Please cast an informed vote on November 3rd.

Celebrating Halloween without the COVID-19 Fright
Like everything else in 2020, Halloween will look different because of COVID-19. But, it doesn’t have to be full of fright. With a few considerations, Halloween can still be enjoyable for both parents and kids. Please click on this link to access some great tips from Dr. Frank Zhu of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
