SDOP Grant Recipient Empowers Youth

A group of teens from Sussex County were the recipient of the 2023 Presbytery of the James Self-Development of People (SDOP) Committee grant. The SDOP committee awarded the group a grant of $7,000 to help youth in their community gain leadership skills and increase their civic engagement. The youth are participants in Empowering Young Leaders (EYL), a program that serves youth in underserved, rural communities in Southeastern Virginia. EYL seeks to educate, enhance, and empower the lives of youth and to help them to become leaders in the communities that they live in.

Attend This Event to Benefit Your Aging Congregation

Ageism--discrimination against older people--is one of the last socially acceptable prejudices, reports the American Psychological Association. On April 18, the presbytery's Older Adult Ministry hosts an event with Dr. Tracey Gendron, chair of Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of Gerontology and director of the Virginia Center on Aging.
