The Society of Decision Professionals (SDP) is proud to announce the formation of a new forum on Decision Making in Europe. “We have more opportunities to improve decision making in areas of concern to Europe than can be handled by separate organizations.” says Professor Gilberto Montibeller, “Bringing together 3 European chapters (UK, Norway and Austria) and 2 independent decision-focused societies, the European Decision Professionals Network (EDPN) and the Norwegian Society of Decision Making (NSDM) is a big success.”
“Pursuing the vision of ‘a great decision every time’ was challenging without a unifying global affiliation and organization”, says Trygve Botn, SDP European liaison. “The agenda for positive contribution for Europe was too big to handle as independent entities. We had identified 12 initiatives we wanted to pursue that none of us could pursue independently. SDP gave us a way to synergize and connect to a global perspective and resources.”
“We won’t solve critical problems like the Energy Transition or respond effectively to the uncertainties of our day without being able to make better choices,” says David Matheson, President of the Society. “These are global issues and getting better organized to make progress on these issues in Europe – and across the world – is critical. I am delighted that Decision Professionals will have this opportunity to make a larger scale contribution to the most pressing decision-intensive problems of our day through our efforts in Europe.”
SDP Chapters will continue providing local connection, organization and autonomy; while SDP will continue to be a big tent of those who want to bring decision making to a professional standard so we can deliver on our vision of a great decision every time.
Reach out to Trygve Botn or Jeremy Walker, SDP Vice President, if you’d like to get involved or learn more about our efforts in Europe.
