Dear SDP Member,
I am writing to let you know we have relieved our Executive Director of her position based on suspected misuse of Society and Foundation property. As emotionally difficult as the last few days have been, our board has rallied together to support the remaining staff, to put safeguards in place, and to make sure we emerge from this experience stronger and better.
We are working with legal counsel to recover our losses. Sue Bowers, a past president and current board member will step in and serve as interim Executive Director. We will launch a nationwide search to find a qualified candidate to lead SDP and the Foundation going forward.
Rest assured, we are working closely with our accounting firm to evaluate all our policies and procedures to determine where different controls may be needed.
I want you to know, I’ve been involved for decades with the SDP. I serve as the President because I am passionate about this organization. I believe in the good we create as a group and I believe in the strength of each and every member. I am confident we will learn from this experience and be stronger together as a result. We need your continued support. If you have any concerns or questions, please reach out to me directly.
While this situation is being investigated, it is important that you keep in mind that rumors on social media and among members can put the organization in jeopardy.
