Dear School District of Wisconsin Dells Community Members,
The 2024-25 school year is on the verge of wrapping up, and as I draft this month's newsletter article, it's worth mentioning again that this year saw many positive things taking place at the School District of Wisconsin Dells. Most recently, the district held its annual graduation ceremony, where 137 students received their diplomas and officially ended their public-school journey with us. We wish all the graduates of the class of 2025 the very best in their future endeavors! Special thanks to class president Vesela, valedictorian Giovanni, and salutatorian Ryan for delivering great closing messages to their peers as well as the audience in attendance. The class of 2025 was a talented and tight-knit group that truly represented WDHS to the very best of their abilities. Congratulations to all!
I also extend my gratitude to all of our elementary professional staff members, along with our elementary principals, for the vast amount of time they have devoted to unpacking and implementing the ACT-20 reading instruction law passed last year. The district's goal remains the same: to see every student be able to read at grade level by the end of third grade. For some districts, this new legislation required districts to make significant changes to their literacy curriculums; however, for the SDWD, it is really more about making some day-to-day adjustments and getting a handle on carrying out the progress monitoring of students as well as putting an individual reading plan in place for a student who has not met the goal of reading at grade level. While there are additional phases of the legislation to unpack, the district is well-positioned to further implement changes with early literacy and, in turn, see better outcomes for the students the district serves.
SUMMER CONSTRUCTION UPDATES
Please take notice of a couple of changes taking place this summer. Due to a large amount of construction taking place at Spring Hill Elementary School, as of Monday, June 9, 2025, the public will have no access to the building. Anyone wishing to reach office staff at SHES can continue to call them at 253-1461, and our summer office staff will be glad to assist you with your needs, just with a different temporary work location. As a reminder, this summer’s construction will result in much-needed safety upgrades that will separate bus rider, car rider, and pedestrian traffic in the morning and afternoons during peak drop-off and pick-up times. Additional updates will be provided as this project closes out later this summer ...READ MORE
