A message from your District Administrator

Dear School District of Wisconsin Dells Community Members,

Please take a moment to review this month’s edition of our e-newsletter. District officials have put together various articles to keep our district’s constituents up-to-date on a variety of topics at all levels of our schools. If you need additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you!

Dear School District of Wisconsin Dells Community Members,

Please allow me to begin the March e-newsletter article with several calendar milestones. The first reminder is that our clocks will "spring" forward on Sunday, March 9 th, meaning we will gain a full extra hour of sunlight at the end of the school day. As I write this newsletter during the last week of February, I have noticed the extra sunlight we have been gaining both in the morning and the afternoon as we move closer to spring. The second reminder is that the district will observe the annual spring break at the end of the month. Specifically, there will be no classes on Friday, March 21st, and classes will resume on Monday, March 31, 2025. Finally, if you are an advanced planner, you can find a 2025-26 calendar link here to see when spring break is scheduled for next year.

LONG-RANGE FACILITY PRESENTATION

As previously shared as part of our weekly family message, this is a follow-up reminder that the second long-range facility planning presentation will take place on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, and it will take place at WDHS in HH Bennett Hall beginning at 6:00 pm. Please use the west side activities entrance door #5 to enter the high school if you attend the meeting. PRA Architect Steve Kieckhafer will lead the presentation on future three and four-track school options. Presently, there are no immediate plans to move forward with any future referendum plan. Rather, most future projects are at least a couple of years away. ...READ MORE

The Importance of Preschool: Setting the Foundation for Lifelong Learning

By: Kimberly Torkelson, Spring Hill Associate Principal

As parents, we all want to give our children the best possible start in life. One of the most effective ways to do this is by enrolling them in preschool. Early childhood education plays a critical role in a child's cognitive, social, and emotional development, providing them with the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond....READ MORE

Rural Virtual Academy Application Window Will Open February 3, 2025.

By: Brian Grove, Director of Curriculum & Instruction

The virtual school enrollment window for the 2025-26 school year will open on February 3rd and close on April 30th, 2025. SDWD families who might be interested in having children attend school virtually full time during the 2025-26 school year will be able to enroll in Rural Virtual School (RVA). SDWD and RVA have a partnership for virtual students. Students stay enrolled in SDWD but attend school virtually through RVA. If this is something you might be interested in for 2025-26 we encourage you to follow the link at the bottom of this page to get more information on RVA.  ...READ MORE

2025 State Assessment Update

By: Brian Grove, Director of Curriculum & Instruction

The Spring season in Wisconsin also means that schools are busy preparing for State Assessments!  We appreciated the support of parents and caregivers during the state assessment season. The School District of Wisconsin Dells utilizes student assessment results to help us determine student progress in the state standards and to shape direction of our overall instructional programs. Wisconsin and the Department of Public Instruction use the data as part of our accountability ratings and the school report card system (typically released late Fall annually).

Battling the Winter Slump

By: Allison Hoch, High School Principal

Winter weather has finally hit Wisconsin, and cold/flu season is significantly underway. At WDHS, we are experiencing a dip in motivation and energy. This "winter slump" substantially impacts students’ attendance and academic performance and affects current grades. Parents, we need you to recognize this seasonal challenge and work together to help our students stay on or get back on track.

The Science of Learning: Why School Attendance Matters

By:Brooke Scott, Middle School Associate Principal

As parents, we want our children to succeed academically and develop the skills they need for the future. However, frequent absences from school—whether due to illness, travel, or other reasons—can significantly impact a child’s ability to learn and grow. Understanding the science behind skill development and the brain’s wiring can help us appreciate the importance of consistent learning opportunities, both in and out of the classroom. ...READ MORE
