Congratulations to all of you on your outstanding achievements in the Ovation Program!

On Saturday, April 13, the Chamber Orchestra will perform a concert for the NPR Radio Program From the Top
We will be CANCELLING our Wind Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra rehearsals on Saturday, April 13  due to the Ovation Chamber Orchestra event and concert on that day.  

I look forward to seeing you all at our Ovation Program rehearsals on Saturday, April 6!

San Diego Museum of Art

Would you like an opportunity to perform at the  San Degio Museum of Art , learn about the connections between art and music, and engage with museum goers?

In collaboration with the San Diego Museum of Art (SDMA), students in
Sinfonia, Wind Symphony, or Ovation are eligible to apply for Musical ArtStops.
Students will have the opportunity to present a 10-minute performance centering around works of art at SDMA. SDYS and SDMA staff members will provide training for students. 

Training will include an overview of the music as it relates to the artwork as well as etiquette while engaging a group of museum visitors.

  • Please note that there will be no rehearsal on April 20 and April 21 due to Easter weekend and scheduled SDYS Spring Break.

  • There will also be no rehearsals on Sunday, April 28.
  • Because of these cancellations, Overture Strings and Overture Winds rehearsals will be extended 30 minutes on May 5, 12, 19 and June 2.

On Saturday, May 4, SDYS will host our annual Encore! fundraising event here in Casa del Prado. The event will take place from 4pm to 9pm. Rehearsal times will be adjusted slightly for this day. Please stay tuned for exact times to be announced next week.

We are looking for volunteers to help out at our fundraising event: Encore !

SDYS' annual  Encore !  will take place on  Saturday, May 4 at Balboa Park. Volunteers can choose from a variety of activities with flexible schedules to support scholarship recipients at our biggest fundraiser of the year!

SDYS Community Opus Project's Chamber Recital

Come and watch the Opus Chamber Recital at the Chula Vista Library! This recital features musicians from String Quintet Workshop, Violin Choir, Creative Composition and Improvisation, and Percussion Ensemble. This event is free and open to the public.
Looking for ChIMES Guest Performers!
Would you like to be a guest performer for young children ages 0-5 and their caregivers? SDYS is seeking Conservatory musicians to be featured on a Friday or Saturday morning ChIMES music class in Balboa Park. Play a short piece of music of your choice, as well as a classic kid favorite: Twinkle Twinkle, Mary Had a Little Lamb, etc.

Guest performers needed from 10:00 am-11:30 am on these dates:

  • FRIDAYS: April 19, April 26, and May 10

  • SATURDAYS: April 6 and May 11

This is a fun experience that also counts for community service hours!

Donate an Instrument
We are accepting wind and string instruments that will all be going to conservatory and community 
students that need them. You can drop them off Monday - Friday during regular business hours, or 
on the weekends during rehearsals.

We have an immediate need for violas and trombones!
