Join us on Saturday, August 27 for an opportunity  to meet with our artistic faculty, administrative staff, board of directors, and other families prior to the first day of rehearsal.   All are welcome! 

No need to bring your instrument, RSVP today!

Showcase Program
(Wind Symphony, Sinfonia, Concert Orchestra and Concert Winds)

10:00am - Check in at 1650 El Prado #207A (where you checked in for auditions)
10:30am - Orientation in Room 207
12:00pm - Potluck lunch in Patio
1:00pm - Downbeat ends

Inspiration Program and Principles of Music Class
(Symphonic Strings, Overture Strings, Overture Winds, Debut and Principles of Music Classes)

Ovation Program
Musicians will have a separate orientation with Mr. Edmons at a later date. 

A potluck lunch will be organized at the Patio area in the Casa Del Prado building in Balboa Park. 

Sign up forms for p otluck dishes and volunteer opportunities will be included in next week's Weekly Update. 

2016 SDYS Season's First Downbeat Parent Volunteer Sign-Up
We are looking for help with Season's First Downbeat! As a parent v olunteer, you will be assisting our staff  with the Season's First Downbeat orientation and potluck event on Saturday August 27.

We are looking for several parent volunteers. Please meet our staff at the Casa del Prado room 207A in Balboa Park. This is the same location where you auditioned. ( Map).

Each hour of volunteer service will count as 1 service.

Summer Coaching Workshops

SummerFest Coaching Workshops are intensive master classes, conducted by senior LJMS artists from the festival roster, and offered to the young artists participating in our Fellowship Artist Program and local advanced students. All Coaching Workshops are open to the public, further providing students with the opportunity to present their work to a discerning audience.

Inspiration and Showcase Programs
Principles of Music Class

This class introduces and strengthen basic principles of music such as ear training, rhythmic dictation and exercise, key signatures, note reading, clef reading, and much more, in an interactive setting.

Designed as an introduction to music, we invite parents, guardians, and siblings to enroll in this class.  

Classes are offered based on minimum enrollment.

Tuition for Principles of Music is $250.

Class Date/Time:  Sundays 1:00-1:45pm
Start Date:  Sunday, September 11, 2016.

Ovation Program


Ovation Program and piano students are eligible to apply for The Music Institute, a pre-collegiate program offered with our partner, La Jolla Music Society. The deadline has been extended to Thursday, August 25!

As a student of The Music Institute, you will receive:
  • Rigorous instruction in music theory, music history, conducting, and chamber music practice.
  • Special performance opportunities.
  • Free concert tickets to select LJMS performances.
  • Opportunities to work side-by-side with top artists and music industry leaders.

Musicians are not allowed to exceed the maximum permitted absences according to the Musician's Handbook  by participating in any events listed below.
 
"The President's Own" United States Marine Band, in conjunction with the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, is pleased to announce its annual concerto competition for high school musicians.  The winner will appear as a guest soloist with the U.S. Marine Band and receive a $2,500 cash prize from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. The runner up will receive a $500 cash prize.

The final round of the competition will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at John Philip Sousa Band Hall at the Marine Barracks Annex in southeast Washington, D.C. The final round is presented as a recital and is open to the public. The winner will perform in concert with the Marine Band at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 9, 2017 in the Washington, D.C. area.
