Mr. Edmons' Message

Dear SDYS Musicians and Families,

Congratulations to all of our musicians and families for a truly wonderful and inspirational season together! Our Virtual Online Celebration was truly a wonderful event, and all of our SDYS musicians did such an outstanding job in their performances together. Congratulations again to all of our graduating seniors! We are so proud of you and we will miss you! A special thanks to all of our SDYS staff who worked so hard to help to put together our Virtual Celebration Event. And a special thank you to all of our wonderful SDYS conductors and artistic staff for all of the inspirational teaching that you have all done for all of the students throughout the entire season. And to all of our SDYS staff for all of your efforts to support our musicians and families throughout this season.

Thank you all again so much to all of our SDYS musicians and families for sharing your music education experiences with us, and for such a truly inspirational and outstanding season together with you all.  

We are so proud of you!

Post Audition Information

Now that you have finished your 2020-2021 audition, here is what to expect next:

On Thursday, July 2, ensemble placements and tuition assistance notifications will go out via email. Please do not contact the office regarding your placement before you receive the email. Details about SDYS' reopening plan and necessary safety precautions for the fall concert period will be included with placement information.

August Auditions for NEW Students

Even though registration for the 2020-2021 season has closed for all returning students, registration is still open for students who are NEW to SDYS, now through July 23.

*NEW* SDYS Youth Leadership Council

The SDYS Youth Leadership Council is a youth-led group of SDYS musicians who want to get more involved, connect with other SDYS musicians, and contribute positively to the future of SDYS.

Participants must have parent/guardian permission to join.

Students will be joining a BAND.us group, monitored by SDYS staff at all times. Invitations will be sent directly to student's email following submission of this form:

  • On June 14, 1921, Ralph Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending premiered in London, UK. Léo Delibes' ballet, Sylvia, premiered on the same day in 1876 in Paris, France.
  • Egmont Overture by Ludwig van Beethoven premiered on June 15, 1810 in Vienna, Austria. Also on this day, Edvard Greig was born in 1843 in Bergen, Norway.
  • Charles Gounod (1818) and Igor Stravinsky (1882) were both born on June 17.
  • Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar premiered on June 19, 1899.
Register Now for ChIMES@Home Summer 2020 Session
Monday June 22 – Friday August 14
Cost: $125 per family

This 8-week session is for parents/caregivers and children ages 0-5 (and any other members of your household that would like to join in the fun too!)

You and your child will share meaningful music-making experiences together at home. Interactive LIVE classes and creative videos will have you singing, dancing, playing instruments and learning new skills!

Session includes:

  • 2 live-streaming classes each week 
  • New video posted every week, plus at-home musical activities, tips and resources
  • 1 Instrument Kit per family 
  • On-demand access to all ChIMES videos and live class recordings 
  • 1 live “ChIMES Check-In” session

COVID-19

The SDYS office is closed, and all rehearsals in Balboa Park are suspended until further notice. Staff are available via email and are working to provide opportunities for students to learn remotely. We are continuing to evaluate this fluid situation and will contact you regarding program updates. Please visit sdys.org/COVID-19 for any new information.
