  • Sunday, May 12, 19 and June 2 - Overture Strings and Overture Winds rehearsals will be extended 30 minutes. Symphonic Strings will not be extended.

Bring your friend to rehearsal on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12! Your friends may sit in your ensemble, meet the conductor, and learn about joining SDYS. We will have an  information booth set up to answer any questions.

Seminars with Music Director, Mr. Edmons

Mr. Edmons will be holding seminars on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12 . On Saturday, he will be speaking about Ovation Auditions and answering any questions about the Ovation ensembles. On Sunday, he will be speaking about the journey through SDYS' ensembles and the various opportunities they give.

I am writing let you know about an Ovation program audition Q & A at the end of Sinfonia rehearsal from 1:00pm - 1:40pm on Saturday, May 11 in room 205 .

We will discuss details about Ovation auditions, practice tips, and much more. The Ovation ensembles are the highest level ensembles at SDYS. It offers students and families exciting repertoire, concert performances, leadership and community opportunities, and outstanding musical training.

Dear Inspiration Students and Families,

I am writing to let you know about a brief seminar which I will be presenting for all Overture Winds, Overture Strings, and Symphonic Strings musicians and families. This seminar will start at the end of Symphonic Strings rehearsal from 2:45pm - 3:15pm on Saturday, May 12 in room 207.

This special seminar and Q & A session will focus on the journey through SDYS. There are many opportunities available at SDYS for students and families as they take their journey through our programs. All Overture Strings, Overture Winds, and Symphonic Strings students are invited to attend!

Returning students are able to register for the new season now through May 20! Students can enroll on the Parent Portal .

Auditions will take place
Wednesday, May 29 - Saturday, June 15.

All currently enrolled musicians-- including marching band students --must audition in June.  The audition schedule will be available on Friday, May 24. Click here for more information on auditions.

Concert on the Plaza is Cancelled
Friday, May 31

The Concert on the Plaza (also called the Summer Kickoff Concert) that was scheduled for May 31 has been cancelled for Showcase and Inspiration ensembles.

Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Strings will be performing that night, so please come out to hear them on the Botanical Garden lawn!

Donate an Instrument
We are accepting wind and string instruments that will all be going to conservatory and community 
students that need them. You can drop them off Monday - Friday during regular business hours, or 
on the weekends during rehearsals.

We have an immediate need for violas and trombones!

For young musicians, nothing is more valuable than intense practice under the supervision of master musicians. Developing the needed discipline and desire for productive practice and learning music theory can be fun. The San Diego Summer Music Institute (SDSMI) brings together students of all levels together with some of the best teachers in Southern California to experience amazing musical opportunities while bonding with new friends. The SDSMI is more than mastering melody; it is creating positive lifelong memories.

This summer camp is open to all high school and middle school string, wind and percussion players.
