KENTUCKY:

The Dairy Alliance provided Moo Brew iced coffee this week as part of a dessert bar featured at the Kentucky School Nutrition Manager's Conference. Over 170 attended! Alan Curtsinger, Senior Manager of Youth Wellness in Schools for The Dairy Alliance, also had a chance to present during the event and host a round-robin discussion on grant opportunities through our Youth Wellness programs

MISSISSIPPI: Donna Speed, Manager of Youth Wellness and Registered Dietician, recently attended a proclamation signing for National Nutrition Month and Registered Dietitian Day with Governor Tate Reeves of Mississippi.

Dairy Advocate, Rebecca Turner, recently wrote an article in Our Mississippi Home about National Nutrition Month.

It's National School Breakfast Week! Schools across the country are celebrating all things breakfast including milk. Thanks to all the school nutrition staff who take the time to highlight the goodness of dairy!

GEORGIA:

Dairy Advocate and Sports Dietitian Marie Spano was featured on CBS ATL recently for Lactose Intolerance Awareness Month highlighting ways to keep dairy in your diet even if you struggle with sensitivities. Did you know research shows that chocolate milk may be easier to digest than regular milk? This is great for athletes because it replaces carbs lost during exercise. Watch report here>>>

High gas prices, inflation and crisis in Ukraine takes toll on Va., Md. farmers

“Everything that we use here has gone up,” he said. “Last year we were able to plant our crop for a little over $500,000. This year to plant the same acres with the same projected yield it’s going to cost us $1.2 million. Every step of what we do here takes diesel fuel. Herbicides, pesticides have tripled in price from what it was in March 2021 and that’s if you can even get it. Fertilizer has more than tripled in price.” Watch news story here>>>

Working on his family’s dairy farm in Lincolnton was always what James Pearson had in mind.

“When I was young… I saw my dad working, and I saw the hard work that he did and the enjoyment that he got out of it,” Pearson said. “And that instilled in me that one day I want to come back and do this.” Read more here>>>
