Southeast Section Members:
The 2021 holiday season is fast approaching. With it comes the time to attend special events, spend time with family and reach out to friends. It's often easy to over plan, over schedule and stretch one's time to the limit.
For many, the added stress, fatigue and emotion can rapidly overtake our lives. It can also cause the often deadly "get -home -itus", the overwhelming need to get some place, or fulfill a particular commitment. It's important to keep this in mind as we travel, whether flying or driving. I want to remind everyone to think of the I'M SAFE acronym from flight training.

Best wishes to all the SE Section members for a happy holiday season. Please travel SAFE!

The 2022 International Conference
Charleston, SC
July 5-10
The 2021 International Conference is going to be here before we know it. Several members of the SES have stepped up to help lead the volunteers. While much of the planning is now conducted by the International Conference and Career Expo Committee (I.C.C.E), we still need a significant number of SE Section members to help. It's never too soon to let the committee chairs you can help.

Hospitality Room Donations are needed!
Chair, Ramona Banks, needs everyone's help with the Hospitality Room, chapters and individual members are encouraged to donate. Donations can be monetary, or you can contact Ramona with items you can bring. Right now, we need everything, food and drinks. Use your imagination. Perhaps your local Wal Mart will make a donation.
Individual chapters or pairs of chapters or even groups of chapters are urged to consider hosting the room for a day. Consider filling the room with your own regional cuisines. Let's make this a hospitality room everyone will remember!

Proposed Section Meeting Host Schedule
As most of you know, section meetings are hosted by the chapters on a rotating schedule. The SE Section Board has reviewed the ten-year history of the section meeting hosts. Based on this, and the fact that Fall meetings should not be on the gulf coast due to hurricane season, they have compiled the following schedule.
Vice Governor, Lois Horne, is the section meeting liaison with the chapters. Please let her know if you need help in any way or have concerns. Thank you all for contributing the Section.
2022 Spring Treasure Coast
2022 Fall Tennessee
2023 Spring Florida First Coast
2023 Fall Alabama
2024 Spring NOLA
2024 Fall Georgia Flying Belles

The Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarships & Awards
2022 AE Scholarship applications are available
NOTAM from your AEMSF Trustees!
Please read the instructions carefully and note that there are a number of changes in the application forms. Applicants MUST hold all prerequisite certificates or ratings required for the certificate they are seeking. Section AE Scholarship Chairpersons will also note that a separate document is available for reporting the recommended applications rather than a page to be included in each application; Section AE Chairs may also create their own form in lieu of the Section Certification form.
AE Scholarship Application Deadline is January 1, 2022
Each year Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarships are awarded to qualified members for five different scholarship types, including two specialized scholarships: an Emergency Maneuver Training Scholarship established in memory of 99 member Vicki Cruse and an International Scholarship, in memory of Kitty Houghton, for pilots in developing countries. In addition, the AEMSF provides Research Scholarship Grants and also First Wings Awards for Student Pilot members of the organization. 99s members and other individuals have donated to the Fund through their estate bequests and the Perpetual Scholarship program. Since 1941, the AEMSF has awarded over 800 scholarships plus more than 300 awards to student pilots earning their first certificate. The amount awarded for these scholarships, including Research Scholar Grants and Fly Now/First Wings Awards exceeds $12 Million. The AEMSF's investment account is currently valued at over $6.
It's never too early to begin working on your scholarship package.

It's time to think about running for SE Section Office
|
Meagan Harr, nominating committee chair, has a reminder for everyone
If any ladies are interested, they should reach out to the committee for help. We can get them up to speed on everything they need to know by getting them in contact with a ‘mentor’ that’s held the respective office they are interested in. It’s possible we have ladies who are interested, but are hesitant to step up. They need to know we all help each other. I know I couldn’t do what I do without help. That needs to be reiterated. I want our members to know I’m approachable and I don’t mind if they reach out to learn. Our Nominating Committee is wide open for communication.

Let’s Fly Now! First Flight Program
Don’t you just love to share your passion for flying with others? You can do just that by planning a Let’s Fly Now! First Flight Program.
Let’s Fly Now! is an introductory First Flight Program targeting females of flying age. Our tagline captures the spirit of the program:
EXPLORE the wonders of aviation
DISCOVER the magic of flight
IMAGINE the possibilities for your future
This program encourages females, ages 14 and older, to fly for the first time. Ninety-Nines, Friends of the 99s, and other properly certified pilots provide their airplanes, fuel, and time to share their passion for aviation as they soar through the skies with women of flying age (men and youth are also welcome) and take them on their first flights. Many of our new pilots are in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. We hope to make an immediate and positive impact regarding the need for new pilots during the next few decades.
How do you plan and implement an event? It is easy. Go to The Ninety-nines website www.ninety-nines.org Click on the Library and find documents that will provide instructions. We also have a new online registration program. As you look at www.ninety-nines.org, you will a see red button on the membership page by NOTAMS. If you wish to set up a Let’s Fly Now! event, just click on the button and follow the directions. On the Home page, you will see another red button. Here is where interested passengers or pilots will fill out their information. Just click and follow the directions. Also be sure to have a CFI and laptop on hand at your event to encourage enthusiastic passengers to register as a student pilot as well as to recruit new or renewing 99s.

The St. Croix Island Paradise Chapter Celebrates the Achievements of Denali Geroges
Denali is a sophomore at Liberty College in Lynchburg, Virginia pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautics with a concentration in Commercial/Corporate Aviation. She earned her private pilot certificate on July 6, 2021 and is currently working on her instrument rating. At Liberty University, Denali will also have an opportunity to qualify and gain employment as a Certificated Flight Instructor as she prepares to interview with many of their partnered airline companies.
In pursuit of her goal as a commercial airline pilot Denali is a member of a number of aviation organizations: Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. (TAI); Virgin Islands Chapter Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. (VICTAI); VICTAI Youth Aviation Club (VYAC); Boy Scouts of America/Aviation Explorers; Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP); Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA); The Ninety-Nines, Inc. International Organization of Women Pilots - St. Croix Island Paradise Chapter (SCIPC 99s).
Our 99s Chapter on the small island of St. Croix has much to be proud of as we continue into our seventh year after chartering. It is because of committed members like Denali that we will continue to provide opportunities to up and coming young aviation enthusiasts seeking flight training for careers, or “just for the fun of it”.
Cenita C. Heywood
SCIPC-99s Chairperson
