SE4A Spotlight Newsletter February 2023

SE4A President's Address:

Dear SE4A Members:

I have always enjoyed being a part of SE4A, and now it is truly an honor to be board president. Our SE4A conferences provide unique opportunities to share ideas, spotlight innovative programs, network, and build relationships with the talented professionals involved in aging. I continue to learn and benefit from the experiences of other AAA directors, AAA staff members, speakers, national association leaders, State Units on Aging representatives, and our provider network.

Our SE4A Conference will be hosted in Asheville, North Carolina at the majestic Grove Park Inn, August 27-30, 2023. Due to the pandemic, the North Carolina Conference Committee has been working to make this conference come to fruition for many years. We are looking forward to welcoming all members, guests, exhibitors, and sponsors in August.

During the pandemic, the monthly webinars were successful in keeping us connected and sharing useful information. The southeastern member states continue to plan a webinar for each month. Members may use this service for free, and others may pay a small fee. Please visit our newly designed website www.se4a.org for updates.

SE4A is committed to helping our network evolve and grow to serve communities in the best way possible. With a rapidly growing senior population, inflation, and a limited budget, it is important to share best practices with each other. It also benefits us to hear about unique partnerships and how others operate independently of state and federal dollars.

On a broader level, it is essential that we keep our focus on those we serve. All of us, from ACL, legislators, SUA’s, AAA’s, provider networks, and all senior-focused associations must know, that by working together towards a common goal, we can make the world a better place.

Sincerely,

Tim Womack

SE4A President

2022 SE4A Conference Highlights

Florida hosted the 2022 SE4A conference on beautiful Amelia Island in September 2022 with 546 participants from 9 states and D.C. in attendance.

The conference theme was Waves of Change: Aging Redefined and the opening session’s keynote speaker, Marc Middleton, set the tone with his inspiring presentation on Looking at Life through a Lens of Passion, Purpose and Possibility. More than 50 sessions were presented to help the aging network leaders attending the conference hone their skills in the conference’s focus areas of Caregiving, Technology, Business Acumen, System Transformation and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Thirty-seven companies and organizations sponsored the event with major support provided by Florida’s Department of Elder Affairs.  Outside of the business of the conference, the Omni Resort was a breathtaking venue for last year’s conference and provided attendees with lots of opportunity to network, socialize and enjoy the cool breezes of the Atlantic Ocean. Forecast of bad weather did not deter conference goers as the last night’s event was held in the hotel’s massive ballroom. The South Seas Revue provided entertainment for the Hawaiian luau theme with great food and fun interactive activities.

The Florida Association for Area Agencies on Aging, F4A, thanks all SE4A participants who attended the Waves of Change conference and hopes everyone left inspired to do even more to help seniors.
