Håfa Adai & Hello Seattle families,
SEA members are united and strong and while we don’t want to, we are ready to strike to get our students more of the staffing and resources they need to succeed.
At our General Membership Meeting tonight, members voted 91% to authorize our bargaining team to call a strike if necessary.
We all want to be in our classrooms and buildings. But we also want our students to succeed and we urgently need relief from the pressurization we’re feeling with our huge class sizes, case loads, and workloads. This isn’t a decision any of us took lightly.
This does not mean we are definitely striking. Our bargaining team will go back to the table tomorrow and continue bargaining around the clock. If SPS doesn’t offer us an agreement that makes improvements on Special Education supports, respectful pay, and relief from huge class sizes before we welcome students back, our Bargaining Team will be forced to call a strike.
The ball is in SPS’ court. SPS can stop this strike before it starts by bringing us proposals that center student success and invest in students and educators.
Our working conditions are our students’ learning conditions. Take a minute to tell School Board members to direct the Superintendent to settle a contract with SEA NOW that centers student success.
Thank you for your support. We really didn’t want to be in this position, but together, we can move the district to give our students more of what they need.
In solidarity & Si Yu’os Ma’åse,
