2024 SEACSM Annual Meeting
February 22–24, 2024

Abstract Submission and Review

Thank you to all of the professional and student members who submitted abstracts for the 2024 Annual Meeting. We had 475 submissions! The abstracts are currently being reviewed. Authors will receive acceptance notifications in early November

Abstracts for the Student Award poster sessions will undergo additional review to select the eight finalists in the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral categories. Those students will be notified in mid-November. Abstracts not selected for an award session will be put into a regular session in the program.
2024 Annual Meeting timeline

Deadline for submission of applications for the Leadership and Diversity Training Program (LDTP), Student Bowl, AV Teams, and nominations for Executive Board elections, Service Award, and Montoye Scholar Award: November 1 at 5:00 PM ET

Applications for a table at the Graduate Program Fair: Ongoing (until all spaces are filled)

Acceptance notifications to presenters: early November

Student Award Poster notifications to finalists: mid-November

Deadline for submission of nominations for the Emily B. Haymes Mentoring Award: December 1 at 5:00 PM ET

SMPT clinical case abstract submission deadline: December 6 at 5:00 PM ET

Annual Meeting registration information: mid-December

Hotel reservation information: mid-December

Session details to presenters: mid-December

Preview Program (schedule and presentation listing): mid-December

SMPT clinical case abstract acceptance notification: early January

Special opportunities for students at the Annual Meeting

We have several opportunities for students at the 2024 Annual Meeting:

The Student Bowl is a Jeopardy-style team competition testing undergraduates’ exercise science knowledge.

Student AV Teams teams provide audiovisual support for presenters during the conference and are a great way to make the conference more affordable.

The Leadership and Diversity Training Program (LDTP) is an opportunity for students from minority groups underrepresented in the sciences to receive mentoring and financial support to attend the meeting.

The Graduate Program Fair is a chance for schools to provide information to potential graduate students about their Masters and/or Doctoral programs.

Nominations for SEACSM awards and Executive Board positions

SEACSM members are invited to submit nominations, including self-nominations, for the SEACSM Scholar Award, Service Award, Mentoring Award, and to serve on the SEACSM Executive Board.

The Henry J. Montoye Scholar Award was instituted to honor and recognize outstanding contributions to the body of knowledge related to medicine and science in sports and exercise.

The Service Award was instituted to honor and recognize outstanding service to SEACSM.

The Emily M. Haymes Mentoring Award recognizes the exemplary mentorship of an active SEACSM member who has made impactful contributions to their profession and/or SEACSM.

We are also seeking nominations for members to serve on the SEACSM Executive Board. This year we will be selecting a President-Elect, three At-Large Members, and a Student Representative.

Call for volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to serve on subcommittees and help at the annual meeting. You can get involved by completing the SEACSM Volunteer Form.
More SEACSM News

The SEACSM Fall Lecture will be held on Wednesday, November 8. The speaker is Dr. Jenna Yentes from Texas A&M University. This virtual lecture is "hosted" by Southeastern Louisiana University and available to SEACSM members to stream live. Maybe you will organize a watch party at your institution. More information about the lecture and how to stream it will be available soon. Check for updates at the SEACSM Events web page.

The 2024 ACSM Annual Meeting will be May 28–31 in Boston. The deadline to submit scientific abstracts and clinical cases is Nov. 29, 2023 at noon PST. Learn more here.
