2023 SEACSM Annual Meeting Planning
February 23–25, 2023 | Hyatt Regency Greenville | Greenville, SC
The Annual Meeting is next week!

Read on for more information and a few things you should do (if you haven't already) to prepare.
  1. Check out the program and start planning your experience
  2. If you are presenting, get your poster or slides done early and make sure you know when and where you are presenting.
  3. If you are a LDTP student or mentor or on an AV team, make sure you attend the meeting on Thursday at 1:00 pm.

The 2023 SEACSM Annual Meeting Program, including conference information, schedule, session and presentation listings, and abstracts is available now at the the SEACSM Annual Meeting page.

2-16-23 update: If you downloaded the program already, please note that we made a schedule change to switch the times of the Basic Science Lecture and the ACSM Presidential Address and made some edits to the abstracts

The program is LONG (~180 pages) so you can also separately download the conference information and schedule, the session listing with titles and authors, and all of the abstracts. There is also a visual schedule showing what is happening, when, and where during the conference.

Just so you know, the 2023 Annual Meeting has a total of 440 presentations including 6 invited speakers, a preconference session with 9 presentations, 18 tutorials, 14 symposiums, 37 oral presentations, 28 thematic posters, 294 poster presentations, 24 posters in the Student Award session, and 9 lectures and 7 case presentations in the Sports Medicine Physician Track program. We are expecting close to 1,000 attendees again this year, the majority of whom are students, many attending their first conference or making their first presentation.
Registration Information

The 2023 SEACSM Annual Meeting will be held February 23–25, 2023 at the Hyatt Regency Greenville in Greenville, SC.

Preregistration ended on Feb. 13. If you haven't registered yet, you will need to do that on site. The registration desk is located in the lobby.

Professional SEACSM Member Registration - $140  
New Professional SEACSM Member Registration - $175 (Includes membership)
Student SEACSM Member Registration - $60
New Student SEACSM Member Registration - $75 (Includes membership)

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS
SEACSM is committed to holding a safe in-person meeting and we are following all hotel, local, and state COVID-19 recommendations. There is no vaccine, mask use, or social distancing requirement to attend the meeting. However, we encourage all attendees to be fully vaccinated, as that term is defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Additionally, all attendees should use their own judgement about mask use and social distancing at the conference.

Attendees who feel ill prior to traveling should get tested in accordance with CDC guidelines. If you feel ill while at the event, please do not attend any sessions, get tested, and remain in your room as much as possible. If you are scheduled to present but cannot attend the meeting, please let us know as soon as possible at seacsmorg@gmail.com.
Information for presenters

Congratulations to the SEACSM members who will be presenting in oral and poster free communication sessions, thematic poster sessions, tutorials, and symposia at the Annual Meeting! To make sure your presentation and the meeting as a whole runs smoothly, there are a few things you need to do to prepare.

  1. Check the program to make sure you know the time and location of your session
  2. Check out the instructions for preparing your poster and slides on the the SEACSM Annual Meeting website.
  3. If you are doing a slide presentation (oral, tutorial, symposium, or preconference) you will need to submit your slides in advance of the meeting, so get those finished early! A SEACSM Executive Board member will contact you with information about submitting your slides.
Special Events at the 2023 Annual Meeting

Preconference Session
Start your Annual Meeting experience with a preconference session on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 3:00 pm. This session is the What’s Up Doc? rapid research presentations, our take on the three-minute thesis. Watch SEACSM professionals and graduate students compete in these short, high-energy presentations.

Emily Haymes Mentoring Breakfast
This annual event is an opportunity for professionals and students to network, provide a support system for career advancement, and promote leadership opportunities in ACSM. Join us on Friday, Feb. 24 at 6:45 am for a chance to connect, learn, and start your day with a delicious meal! You must have preregistered for this event by Feb. 13 to attend.

Luncheon and Lecture
End the Annual Meeting on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 12:00 pm with lunch, awards and honors, and a guest speaker. Students who presented in the Student Award Poster session or participated in the Leadership and Diversity Training Program will be recognized. This is also when new board members are announced, and the new President-elect starts the process of planning the 2024 Annual Meeting. You must have preregistered for this event by Feb. 13 to attend.
Special opportunities for students

Student Award Poster Competition
See some of our region’s best and brightest students share their research in this session on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 4:30 pm. Finalists selected from applicants in the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral awards categories will present in this poster session. A team of judges will select the winners in each category. The top graduate poster (masters or doctoral) will compete in the ACSM Presidential Cup at the 2023 ACSM Annual Meeting. The top chapter award winners will also present at the national meeting.

Student Bowl
The Undergraduate Student Bowl is back for the 2023 SEACSM Annual Meeting! We are looking forward to coming together for this fun Jeopardy-style team competition testing exercise science knowledge. Join us on Friday, Feb. 24 at 4:45 pm to cheer on your school’s team!

Graduate Program Fair 
This annual event is an excellent opportunity for students to learn about graduate programs in our region. This is your chance to make connections with faculty and student representatives to help you in the process of continuing your education. The Graduate Program Fair is on Friday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 pm.

Leadership and Diversity Training Program
The SEACSM Leadership and Diversity Training Program (LDTP) encourages student members from minority groups underrepresented in the sciences to participate in activities that will lead to successful mentored experiences at the Annual Meeting, enhanced pathways to degree completion and career opportunities, and increased SEACSM and ACSM service. Congratulate the award winners when you see them at the meeting and consider applying for the program yourself next year.

The Annual Meeting is the time when we elect new members to the SEACSM Executive Board. This year we will be selecting a President-Elect, three At-Large Members, and one Student Representative. You will have a chance to meet the candidates at the meeting and you can learn more about them at the SEACSM elections website.

Southeast ACSM Program/Lab Showcase

This year we want to connect members in the region by inviting departments/labs in the Southeast Chapter to be featured on our social media platforms! We plan to do this weekly through the regional meeting in February and the national meeting in May. We would post your department/lab on social media based on the information you send. If you would like your department/lab showcased, please contact our Student Representative, Katie Spring at kzw0076@auburn.edu.

Please include the following information:
  • Pictures you would like included of your lab or department. Some ideas for photos could include the type of research conducted, group photos of faculty/staff/students, logos, or even photos of buildings, etc.
  • Descriptions of the research that is conducted in the department/lab and the programs offered within the department.
  • If your department has opportunities for students (graduate program, GA/TA) please incorporate that information in the description.
