New Discrete Method: Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen
We are continuously working on improving our methods. Our new three reagent Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN) method can be used with either the copper sulfate or mercury digestion, with a range of 0.25 – 10.0 mg N/L.

A few changes to the method include using EDTA instead of sodium potassium tartrate. This change removes the necessity of boiling the tartrate. The sodium potassium tartrate can be used in place of the EDTA if desired.

In addition, using DCI instead of bleach has shown more consistent results. Bleach can be used instead of the DCI, but results show more variation.

Please see attached for the front page of the method document
MONTHLY TROUBLESHOOTING TIP
Continuous flow systems can be sensitive to changes in temperature. Silica, cyanide, phenol, and other chemistries will show peaks oscillating if the temperature fluctuates. For example, the air conditioner turning on and off. To help mitigate these changes, run with the covers on the manifold.
SOFTWARE FEATURE: Dual Calibration in AACE
In the AACE software, a dual calibration can be performed. This allows for samples off-scale to be run on a previously run higher concentration calibration curve. In the run, tick the box on the main page listed as "Dual-cal run". Then select the curve to be used for the higher calibration. Note both calibrations must have the same number of channels in use.

On the channel tab, both calibrations will be shown. In addition, a QC cup (QC10) must be added into the run. This QC10 cup needs to be the same concentration as the Drift peak from the higher calibration. This will normalize the results.

A flag in the report (H) will show that this sample concentration was run on the higher range calibration.

For more information about setting this up in the software send us an email.
