Lab Spotlight:

West Virginia University

West Virginia University uses the AQ300 for research projects including studies on bioenergy crops and the effects of acid rain on Black Cherry trees.

Inorganic nutrient analysis is carried out daily on SEAL Analytical’s Automated Analyzers all around the world. While water is perhaps the most commonly monitored matrix for nutrient transportation, soil is an equally important medium for nutrient accumulation.

Vital to all soil ecosystems are the complex microbe communities that thrive within them. Their diverse metabolic capabilities drive recycling of organic material into bioavailable nutrients. As a result, the presence and vigor of these communities invariably shape and impact ecosystem composition and function. Modern #soilscience investigates much of this world unseen by the naked eye.

The lab of Dr. Zac Freedman at West Virginia University seeks to increase understanding of soil microorganisms by examining how ecological and environmental dynamics shape microbial communities and impact ecosystem function. Dr. Freedman’s research uses a combination of classical microbiological methods as well as state-of-the-art chemical and molecular techniques to investigate the impacts of environmental change on the structure and function of microbial communities in terrestrial #ecosystems.

BBC News: Record number of baby seals seen on county beaches

Nearly 4,000 baby grey seals have been counted on Norfolk's beaches this winter, which volunteers say is a record for the area.

Friends of Horsey Seals (FoHS) said 3,796 pups had been born while 1,169 adults had been spotted on the five-mile stretch of coast between Waxham and Winterton.

The number is almost double the previous record in 2019-20 when the total pup population was 2,069.

FoHS, a group that protects grey seals, said it was "a sign of a healthy colony".

Seals are a common sight in the Horsey area - on the coast between Great Yarmouth and Cromer.

SOFTWARE FEATURE: Software Configuration - AS Samplers

SEAL Software versions 7.13 and 8.02 SP2 have added a feature that allows for customizable racks and full modification of the order for the SEAL Sampler racks (AS2, AS4, etc.). The new configuration allows for alignment of racks, determining where cup 1 is located and the direction the sampler moves in.
