Johan Kjeldahl knew he could determine the amount of protein in a sample if he knew how much organic nitrogen existed in the sample, but no reliable method existed at the time. Being a resourceful chemist, Kjeldahl developed his own process, which is still widely considered to be the most robust and reliable method for organic nitrogen to this day!
