Black History Month: SEANC salutes pioneer of the State Highway Patrol

In honor of Black History Month, SEANC is highlighting members who have shown exemplary service to the state. This week we celebrate the life and career of Colonel Richard W. Holden, Sr., who was the first African-American Commander of the State Highway Patrol. A member of SEANC District 22, we salute this pioneer in state service and all his achievements.

In the News: COVID crippling DHHS facilities; Cooper extends leave policy

This week brought two reminders that COVID is still taking its toll on state employment.

On Wednesday, Gov. Roy Cooper announced that he had extended the policy to allow state employees to use volunteer leave to work in schools through April 15. He also provided additional volunteer hours that state employees may use to help combat staff shortages in K-12 school districts across the state due to COVID-19.

And the News & Observer released a story that took an in-depth look at the staffing shortages plaguing DHHS facilities because of the virus. SEANC first called attention to this issue last month when Cooper announced the public school/volunteer leave policy.

Retiree tax forms arriving in mailboxes

Several members have recently called SEANC with concerns that they have not received their North Carolina Retirement Systems 1099-R tax documents. The Retirement System tells us that the forms have been mailed to over 363,000 retirees through USPS which advises a 7-10 day window for delivery. New Member Orientation Online Sessions - The New Member Orientation educational webinars are available for members who are new to the State Health Plan’s Humana Medicare Advantage Plan or for current members who may want a refresher on everything your plan has to offer.
Bringing Humana to You (BH2U) Online Sessions - The BH2U educational workshops will educate State Health Plan members about a wide variety of health and wellness.
