Delegates elect officers, tend to business at Convention

SEANC delegates gathered in Greensboro last week for the 39th Annual SEANC Convention.

Delegates elected Kirk Montgomery of Burlington (District 25) as the next SEANC President. Wendell Powell of Fayetteville (District 41) was elected First Vice President, Emily Jones of Clayton (District 41) was elected Second Vice President, and Stacie Crabtree of Moncure (District 41) was elected General Treasurer. Martha Fowler of Mebane (District 19) will continue to serve on SEANC's Executive Committee as the Immediate Past President. They will assume their new roles on Oct. 1. Read more about the officers here.

EMPAC also presented its Lisa B. Mitchell Legislators of the Year awards to House Minority Leader Rep. Robert Reives II and Rep. Donna White for their commitment to state employee and retiree issues during the 2023 General Assembly session.

SEANC also honored Joe Fearrington, a 61-year-old UNC-Chapel Hill staff member who shepherded students to safety during the recent shooting on campus. Fearrington was in attendance at the Convention.

As part of the annual Community Services project, members and districts donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Association and the American Diabetes Association. They also made donations to the SEANC Scholarship Foundation.

SEANC launches partnership with Luther Sales, VacationWiser

SEANC proudly launched our partnership with Luther Sales on Sept. 5, offering members an opportunity to pay for big-ticket items and trips through manageable monthly payments.

Luther Sales offers most of the same products as Purchasing Power and a vacation platform, VacationWiser, with a full-service travel agency. With Luther Sales, members have up to three years to pay off a purchase.

The company also reports payment progress to the credit bureaus, allowing members to use the program to build and restore their credit scores.

Vote for Stone for SECU board

SEANC Past President and District 58 Chairman Chuck Stone is among three member-nominated candidates in this year's State Employees' Credit Union board election. Stone, Barbara Perkins, and Michael Clement are facing three incumbents for three seats on the board.

Voting online is easy. Just visit SECU's secure voting site and verify that you are an SECU customer. You'll then be asked to vote for up to three candidates. The last day to vote online is Oct. 3. You must be an SECU customer to vote.

You can also vote by mail (contact an SECU branch or visit the website for more information on this option) or in person at SECU's Annual Meeting on Oct. 10.

SEANC's Member Relations team wasted no time following last week's convention, returning to Greensboro for the Department of Adult Correction's Support Services Seminar and visiting Edgecombe Community College for an event with District 57, to name a few stops.
