From the Dean's Desk
I’m pleased to have this opportunity to share with you this inaugural newsletter for the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) in the WKU Ogden College of Science and Engineering. In the nine months since becoming Dean of this amazing College, I have observed my SEAS colleagues and students and met alums and industrial partners. What I’ve seen gives me a strong sense of pride in our people and programs.

SEAS and Ogden College are on an upward trajectory, with strategic growth that supports the professional scholarship of our faculty, expands the high-quality hands-on training of our students, and strengthens our partnerships with industry and the community.

In this newsletter, you’ll learn about some of our new initiatives as well as our traditions of excellence. You’ll see how we emerged from the pandemic, ready to move forward creatively.

I know many of you have your own stories about your time on the Hill, and your experiences in Ogden College of Science and Engineering. We hope that you will be energized by what you read in these pages and that you will share some of your memories with us. We know the College of Science and Engineering has been transforming lives for a long time through quality hands-on programs and faculty excellence. We look forward to growing the transformative power of our programs through continuous improvement. The support, guidance, and encouragement of our alums and industrial partners helps makes this possible. Thank you!

Please read on and find out more about what is going on in Ogden’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. I hope you find it as exciting as I do. Until we meet, or meet again, Go Tops!

Our very own Murphy Kilgore was selected for the Department Chair's Fellowship at Washington University.

WKU faculty member Yaser Mowafi recently achieved certification from Quality Matters for his third course...
We welcome Dr. Kasem Khalil, PhD as an Assistant Professor within the SEAS department! We are so excited to have you aboard our team!
ASCE 2022 AWARDS
Our team is ranked in the Top 5% of all ASCE student chapters (nearly 400 total). Awarded the 6th Best Student chapter in the nation. They were ranked Best Student Chapter in ASCE Region 4 which is a huge accomplishment competing against approximately 44 schools from Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. Perhaps the most favored award is the Scranton Finalist which is awarded for community service. Our team was recognized for their efforts in teaming with KSPE for stocking stuffers at Potter Children's Home and Math Counts, but they were mostly credited for contributing to clean-up after the December 11th tornado.
A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF SEAS
The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) is proud to launch our first newsletter to showcase the exciting things that have been happening on campus this year. We have been pleased to be back in person after a year of hybrid and remote learning. It has been great to work with our students in person!

We have had a lot of activity in SEAS this year. Our faculty have continued to engage SEAS students in project-based experiences through the various programs. Our engineering programs are preparing to renew their ABET accreditation in the Fall. Our engineering competition teams are in the process of competing at regional conferences in April. Graduating seniors in all our programs are completing their capstone project experiences in preparation for commencement.

We are proud of our students and love to hear the stories of the good things they do after leaving WKU!

We are proud of our strong ties to industry and support a rich culture of students engaging in internships. Through our Industrial Partnership our students engage in opportunities to support the development of their professional skills outside of the classroom. Our faculty are continually seeking ways to bridge the classroom and practice while connecting our industrial supporters and students.

Please feel free to contact us at seas@wku.edu if you have questions or would like to visit our facilities.

SEAS Director, Dr. Stacy Wilson
