SEC's Power Connection

August Newsletter, Issue 11

SEC Welcomes New CFO, Dan Dufour

Where are you from originally? While I grew up in Maine, I have lived across the country, as well as a couple of years overseas. My family and I are moving to Virginia from New Hampshire.

Where did you earn your degree? I received my undergraduate degree in Statistics from North Carolina State University and my MBA in Finance and Accounting from Boston College.

Tell us about your career path up until coming to SEC: I have led finance, operations and business intelligence organizations in the telecommunications and financial services industries.

Tell us about your family: My wife, Lisa, who loves teaching, and I have four children, Cassidy, Dylan, Brandon and Luke. Cassidy graduated from the Virginia Military Institute this past May. With her in Virginia for college, we spent quite a bit of time in the area and loved it. Cassidy will attend the University of Virginia Law School in the fall, while my middle son, Brandon, will attend Old Dominion University as a freshman.

What are your hobbies? I usually joke that my hobbies were whatever activities my kids were doing. As they are getting older, I’m looking forward to biking, hiking and canoeing.

What drew you to SEC and the Southside VA area? The cooperative model has always interested me, given its focus on its members, community and employees. When the opportunity to be part of the SEC family and the Southside Virginia area arose, the entire family was eager to join.

Meet SEC's Technology Support Team

Without SEC’s systems administrator and technical support analyst, employees would be at a disadvantage when it comes to advancements in information technology.

System Administrator Frankie Jackson and Technical Support Analyst Denae O’Brien, who are part of SEC’s IT Department, serve employees in the installation, performance and maintenance of the Cooperative's technology systems and equipment, such as laptop and desktop computers, servers, workstations, iPhones and iPads. That includes the laptops in the lineworkers' trucks, which are critical in answering service calls and responding to outages. Another job for this department is to maintain security for SEC's technology systems.

As an expert in managing IT, Jackson often analyzes technology operating requirements and provides solutions so that SEC employees have industry-leading systems to serve members. Jackson has been with SEC for 23 years.

O’Brien assists all SEC employees with technical support. When an employee calls the technology support team, it is O'Brien who answers. “My day can change very quickly based on the technical needs of our employees.” She has been with SEC for 29 years.
