New Georgia Climate Website introduced by Pam Knox

As part of the   Southeast Climate Extension project whose goal is to advance climate extension in agriculture, we have developed a new website which should serve as a clearinghouse for information on climate and weather in Georgia.

The website provides the following information:

  1. A daily blog post on climate and weather from our agricultural climatologist, Pam Knox.
  2. A news feed of climate-related stories relevant to agriculture.
  3. Links to Extension fact sheets on climate (see link at top of page)
  4. A glossary of relevant terms (see link at top of page)
  5. State maps of 14 environmental parameters from the Georgia Automated Environmental Monitoring Network (GAEMN).
  6. Links to a variety of useful tools such as a Degree Day Calculator, Freeze Risk Probabilities, Chilling Hours Calculator, and many others.
  7. Current drought conditions in Georgia from the U.S. Drought Monitor
  8. El Nio Southern Oscillation (ENSO) climate phase forecast
Southeast Climate Adaptation Working Group Session at the upcoming National Adaptation Forum

SECC is be a co-convener of this regional working group session to be held at NAF in St. Louis (May 12-14).

Working group description: The Southeastern United States (including the Caribbean) is a diverse landscape of natural and built systems, people, and organizations that faces a number of climate adaptation challenges and opportunities. A working group will convene organizations and partners from throughout the region to share existing and proposed adaptation projects that focus on decision-centered science to address climate impacts.

Register for the NAF here; and email skrantz@ufl.edu if you are attending and have interest in participating in the working group.
