A Note from Our Special Guest

Thank you, Christ Trinity folks, for welcoming me so warmly last Sunday. It was the first time I’d ever officiated using a Lutheran liturgy, so I was a bit nervous. I enjoyed warming up with the choir before the service and loved the robust singing of hymns and service music that supported the liturgy so well. The themes of sermon and music meshed together so beautifully that it seemed as if John Arthur and I had sat down together to make choices, but we were of course working from the same scripture passages even if we didn’t confer over the specifics. It’s always inspiring to me when that kind of synergy happens in worship. I look forward to being with you for the rest of January while Pastor Erik is away.

Teak asked me to tell you a little bit about my background, so here’s the short version. I grew up on a farm in rural Alabama, earning a BA in English from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, followed by graduate study at Auburn University. While living in North Dakota as a young adult, I moved from the Southern Baptist Church of my youth to the Episcopal Church (my husband Jim is a “cradle” Episcopalian) and knew I had arrived home. From North Dakota we moved south again to Florida, then Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, and Kentucky. After several decades as a lay professional in the areas of music and Christian formation, I was ordained in 1998 in the Diocese of Kentucky. I studied at Louisville Presbyterian Seminary and received an MDiv from the General Theological Seminary in New York City as preparation for priesthood. After serving in several congregations in Louisville and spending almost 10 years as Rector of Grace Church in Paducah, KY, I retired in 2014. Jim and I moved to Lee, MA that summer to be closer to our sons in Maplewood, NJ and Melrose, MA. Post-retirement, I’ve served as Interim Priest in Williamstown, Southwick, Great Barrington, and twice at St. Paul’s in Stockbridge. When the Rev. Sam Vaught was called to St. Paul’s, I “hung up” the interim hat to once again try retirement. Now I serve as non-stipendiary Priest Associate at St. Paul’s, working primarily in Christian formation for all ages, and do a lot of Sunday Supply work in congregations like Christ Trinity. It seems I’m not too good at the whole retirement thing! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing piano, taking OLLI classes, using photography as a spiritual practice, and spending time with family, especially our three grandchildren.

New Members Class

We are so excited by all the new faces we have been seeing!

To help make it official, we will hold a New Member Class on February 1st with an official New Member Welcome on February 15th.

Please let Teak know if you would like to be part of this group.

Bible Study Hiatus

This is our winter hiatus from Bible study.

So the next meeting is not until Friday February 13 at 1 pm at the Parish Hall.

We'll read and discuss Acts 10: 1-38, titled The Conversion of Peter.

Wanted:

1/2 pint (250ml) canning jars

As the CA fruits show up, I'm canning again and if you have any unwanted 1/2 pint canning jars, I would appreciate having them. I use these jars exclusively in making marmalades and jams for CTC's sales, primarily the holiday bake sale. I'll take both the regular sized as well as the shorter, fatter 1/2 pint jars. Any donations help me avoid having to buy new, and jars have gotten expensive. Please just leave them on the round table in a bag - with their rings if you wish.

Thank you, Rene.

Immigrant Rights = Human Rights

This Saturday!

There will be a gathering with local leaders and organizers who are on the front lines working for immigrant justice throughout the Berkshires.

There was a similar event at St. John’s this fall and it was very informative and helpful. If you are concerned about the persecution of undocumented persons in our country and are eager to organize, this is a great opportunity to get involved.

Please spread the word - it should be a powerful and important day!

Directory Edits

With all the new faces it is time to do a Church Directory review and update.

If you have corrections or updates to your entry in the directory, either make those changes in the copy on the round table in the Parish Hall or email those changes to the church office. If you do not have an entry at all please get a form from the mail box on the office door and return it to the same place.

Official Members, Soon-to-be Members, and Friends who aren't ready to be members are all welcome in the directory! Our goal will be to have a new directory available for folks at the annual meeting on February 8th so please have these corrections or new entries turned in by the end of January.

If you have not had your picture taken for the directory, please see Teak on Jan. 18th!
