OWLEs, all aboard!

On Monday, October 13 (holiday) the OWLEs will ride on the Berkshire Scenic Railway from Adams for a one hour fall foliage train ride through the Hoosic Valley. The train leaves the station at 11:30, and on the return we will stop for lunch in Adams.

Any questions, call Liz Wells or Nancy King. Carpools will be arranged when we know who is going. Let either of them know when you’ve bought your ticket and whether you can drive.

All are welcome at OWLEs events. If the cost is prohibitive, please see Pastor Erik in confidence.

Welcome to Fierce Words for Frightened People

A welcome letter from Michael Tuck

This is a kick off email for everyone who expressed interest in the upcoming course on the Book of Revelation. As most of you have probably heard, the course will be held on Thursday afternoons at 2pm, and it will be both in-person at Trinity’s Parish House and also online via Zoom (link below). It is also my goal and intention to record the lecture component and post it on Trinity’s website.

We’ll be starting this Thursday, October 2 and we’ll go every week until Thursday, November 20. I’m hoping that we’ll go for about an hour.

I’ve included everyone who responded to the survey in case your schedules have changed and you’d like to be part of the course. If you don’t want to be part of the weekly email, please just let me know, and I’ll take you off the list.

If you are planning to come, I am asking folks to do a little bit of reading (attached here). For the first session, it would be great if folks could do a quick read of the whole Book of Revelation (it’s not super long) as well as the second section, Interpretive Frameworks, that would be a great foundation for our kickoff session. You don’t need to do a close read of Revelation; it’s really just to familiarize yourself with the outline and the story. Over the course, we’ll look at specific sections a little more closely.

Finally, PLEASE feel free to forward this invitation on to anyone whom you would like to invite. Especially with the option to join remotely, I’m very happy to welcome any and all.

I’ll try to have some physical copies of the readings at church tomorrow if you’d like to pick one up. In addition, I'll send out the slides the morning of the sessions along with a reminder for the link.

Thanks, and I’m really excited to go on this journey with you all!

'Families Like Ours' Halloween Costume Exchange 2025

OCTOBER 11th

Families Like Ours is now collecting Halloween costumes and accessories for our 2025 Costume Exchange! Please consider donating new, like-new, gently used, or lightly worn costumes in all sizes — babies to adults. Our goal is to gather 500+ costumes so families in our community can find something fun for free this Halloween. We are also in need of hangers to help display costumes for families to browse easily. Help us make Halloween magical for every child (and grown-up!) by donating today. Drop-off locations are on the flyer!

Slate of Candidates for Bishop

Dear people of Western Massachusetts,

It gives us much joy as the Standing Committee of this Diocese to announce a slate of three candidates to serve as our 10th Bishop Diocesan. As we give thanks to God for the faithful ministry of Bishop Fisher, we also give thanks for the faithful and gifted clerics who have put themselves forward in this process of discernment.

We also give our heartfelt thanks to The Rev. Heather Blais and the incredible work of the entire Search Committee. This dedicated team of clergy and laypeople have thoroughly reviewed a large number of applications, engaged in interviews and gathered with finalists for a Spirit-led and intensive discernment retreat weekend. All this hard work and holy listening has yielded an impressive slate of faithful, talented clerics who have discerned a call to Episcopal ministry as our next Bishop.

The candidates are:

The Rev. Susan B. Fortunato

Rector, Christ Episcopal Church, Poughkeepsie, New York

The Very Rev. Dr. Marcus George Halley

Chaplain to the College and Dean of Spiritual and Religious Life at Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut

The Very Rev. Miguelina Howell

Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, Hartford, Connecticut

The people of our diocese will have the opportunity to meet and hear from the candidates at events throughout the Diocese November 4-6. More information on these “Meet-and-Greet” gatherings will be found on the Diocesan website. Clergy and lay delegates will then vote to elect our next Bishop at our Annual Diocesan Convention - November 14-15 at the UMASS Campus Center in Amherst.

Concurrent with this announcement we are opening a petition process whereby additional candidates may be added to the slate. The petition process runs from today, September 29, until 11:59pm on October 6. The requirements to be petitioned onto the final slate are:

  • Signatures of four clergy and eight lay communicants in good standing of this Diocese who represent at least three different parishes of this Diocese.
  • Submission of all application materials required of the earlier search process.
  • No cleric will be considered who participated in the process conducted by the Search Committee and who was not selected for the final slate of nominees approved by the Standing Committee.

Throughout this process the Standing Committee has had every confidence in the work of the Search Committee. We feel confident that each of these candidates would make an outstanding Bishop in Christ’s Church. We ask that you continue to join us in prayer as we discern together who God is calling to lead us and to serve among us at this time and in this place.

Liturgy of Remembrance and Lamentation for October 12

In their joint statement of support for the MA Indigenous Legislative Agenda, Bishops Fisher and Whitmore encouraged congregations to mark Sunday October 12th with a Liturgy of Remembrance and Lamentation.

This resource has been approved by Bishop Fisher for use on October 12 at the principal Eucharist.
