Sheffield is Booming this Month

Berkstock looks a little different this year!

We invite you to rent a table on the church lawn and sell those extra items you have, walk around and find those incredible treasures your neighbors are selling, then come inside to the "Berkstock Café" to enjoy some Padre Pollo barbecue for lunch, grab a dessert, and enjoy the live music at a cafe table. 

Table registration will cost $15 with a suggested 10% donation of profits to the church. Registration link will be in next weeks issue.

All proceeds go to support our local non-profit partners and their work helping to care for our neighbors.

Christ Trinity will be selling Padre Pollo's barbecue at both the Sheffield Fair and the Historical Society's Garlic Festival. Sandwich combos as well as 1 lb. packs and bottles of sauce to take home.

Lich Gate Concerts

Join us on Sat. Sept. 13 at 4pm for the two best string chamber music pieces in the world, by Mozart and Schubert! This is a don't-want-to-miss event! The best of the best right here in Sheffield!

Thrivent Cards Needed for Upcoming Events

UPDATE:

We still need 2 Thrivent cards for our upcoming events. If you have one available please let me know.

We will be needing five, $250 Thrivent Cards in the very near future. One for the Sheffield Fair, one for the Sheffield Historical Society's Garlic Festival, two for food at our Berkstock Tag Sale, and one for publicity for the Berkstock Tag Sale.  

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU TELL THE OFFICE WHICH ONE YOU ARE APPLYING FOR BEFORE YOU APPLY TO AVOID DUPLICATE CARD REQUESTS.  

Look for Volunteer Sign Ups Coming Soon

We will be selling BBQ sandwiches, take home BBQ, and bottles of sauce at three events, the first three Saturdays in September. We will need people to help transport our setup to and from the locations, serve food, and check people out at each event. These three events will be one of our church's biggest opportunities for us to raise funds to pass on to our non-profit partners at our year end "Put your Money where your Heart Is" event. Please consider taking a turn or two or even three at one or more of these events. 

New Member Class

Let's have a New Member Class and a New Member Welcome Sunday!

August 31 and September 7 New Member Class will follow worship and September 14 will be New Member Welcome Sunday. If you would like to attend, just let me know!  

*NOTE: In the Lutheran church a pastor can accept someone from another denomination with whom we are not in "Full Communion" as a new member. (We'll talk about that in the class) In the Episcopal church the bishop does that. In our church (which is both) I'll welcome you as a member from wherever you are coming from on September 14th and then, the next time the Episcopal Bishop visits, you can be formally welcomed again by them.  

*ANOTHER NOTE: If you have never been baptized anywhere, then we should talk. In that case Baptism would be your path to membership. If you have never been confirmed (we'll talk about that in the class too) then let me know and we'll work on that for the next Episcopal Bishop's visitation.

That's a wrap on Trail Magic

What a beautiful season of bringing joy and friendship to a total of 412 hikers!

A huge thank you to Art and Becky Batacchi for letting us setup the tent on their land.

Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde and Marilynne Robinson at the Mahaiwe

Bishop Budde is the first woman elected to serve as spiritual leader for the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. She is an advocate and organizer in support of justice in all its forms, including racial equity, gun-violence prevention, immigration reform, the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ persons, and the care of creation. 

Marilynne Robinson, has written that community “consists very largely of imaginative love for people we do not know, or whom we know very slightly.” In another context, she has defined democracy in the same way. 

Join these two luminaries cherished for their wisdom and imagination, for a conversation that promises to be gracious, grave, radiant, and revelatory. The conversation is on Sunday, September 28 at 3 p.m. at The Mahaiwe.
