Why SEF Matters - Understanding Impact in the Community ~ The One Thing!

Jane No,
Wilson Elementary
Office Manager

1. Why do you support SEF?
SEF is a strong component to the success of our students. I support SEF because the Foundation ensures a bright and hopeful future by advocating for our students through investing in various educational programs in our schools. I know I'm not alone in this thinking, as Wilson elementary school staff and families are passionate supporters of SEF as well.

2.  In your opinion, what is the One Thing that SEF does that enriches students lives?
SEF's fundraising savviness has been deservedly highlighted, but perhaps not as apparent,is their inclusive approach to connect families in our community. Parenting workshops such as the Mindful Movement, and creating community engagements though local businesses are a few examples that come to mind. I'm no expert, but it makes sense to me that a strong educational community + a healthy family environment (both physically & mentally) would exponentially level-up our students' lives.

Joanne Alston,
Retired SGUSD Employee for 27 years, Current Payroll Specialist

1 . Why do you support SEF?
I continue to support SEF because I believe in what the foundation stands for. The enrichment of our children's education.  But most important they do not put titles on the students but look at every student simply as "a student".

2. In your opinion, what is the One Thing that SEF does that enriches students lives?
I love the literacy programs - I want books in every students hands. When I was PTA president at Madison my fund raising was to put books in the library for the students to read. My PTA was not large enough to put books in every students hands. Books enrich the life of everyone who reads.
Your Donation Matters!

Our Annual Giving campaign, which runs each year from  July 1 - June 30 helps support programs that impact the lives of students, teachers and resources in our schools. If you have not yet made your gift for 2019/20 yet, please  give online   today! Click HERE to donate. We thank YOU for your support!!

Mobile Dairy Classroom at Elementary Schools
Combining the assembly's lesson with Common Core standards, SGUSD elementary students were taught about the anatomy of a cow, dairy farming, agriculture and nutrition. At the end of the lesson each of the students had the opportunity to "mee t" their special visitor up close. The Mobile Dairy Classroom is a fabulous opportunity for students to receive a hands-on lesson on the important role agriculture plays in their lives.

Del Mar High School Field Trip
Understanding the power of education outside of the classroom, SEF was thrilled to organize a field trip to the Getty Center, inclusive of bus transportation, for the students of Del Mar High School.  SEF believes that every learning experience a student receives outside of the classroom supports academic concepts they are being taught in school and has the potential to spark passion or curiosity in other areas of study.

3rd Annual Community Builder
The 3rd Annual Book Giveaway event was a success! This f estive event brought together students and their families for an evening filled with fun and provided each student attendee with the "Gift of Reading". Adults and children were able to celebrate the holidays with family and friends AND support literacy!
