Dear Friends of SEF,

SEF's Annual Fund Campaign continues and we still need you! I offer my sincere thanks to everyone who has made a donation to this year's campaign so far. Your investment in the foundation is what allows us to continue our mission.

The SEF Board continues to work passionately to raise funds and build awareness with such events as the:  Community Partnership Mixer, Fall Fund Drive, SEF's Community Builder, Cheers and Charity Gala event, and of course the SEF Summer Academy. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and check our website at www.seffor8schools.org for upcoming announcements about these events and others held throughout the year.

The San Gabriel Educational Foundation is here to support the schools as they continue to strive forward and make a difference in each student's life. Thank you very much for allowing me to be your President, and for continuing in trusting me to be your ally in fostering SEF's mission. If you'd like to connect, I am only an email away.  Please feel free to write me anytime at [email protected] .

I look forward to the continued journey ahead and what we will accomplish together as well as meeting you at the amazing events planned for the second half of the year!

Why SEF Matters - Understanding Impact in the Community ~ The One Thing!
(Principal Sellers, top left, pictured with Del Mar HS staff)
Lon Sellers,
Del Mar High School
Principal

1. Why do you support SEF?
That is a pretty simple answer for me. I support SEF because SEF supports kids! I have always appreciated that SEF has made funding available to all of our teachers and schools, especially Del Mar, and not just to high profile specialty programs. I am a firm  believer in lifting up everyone, and I think SEF has made it clear that is a goal from them as well.

2.  In your opinion, what is the One Thing that SEF does that enriches students lives?
I will speak for Del Mar. The one thing that SEF does that enriches the lives of our students is to fund field trips that expose our students to a world outside of San Gabriel and open up educational avenues that otherwise, they would not have access to. Many of our students and their families live subsistence lives. When we are able to take them to places that the rest of us take for granted, it opens up possibilities for them.
SEF After School Program at JMS -  Winter Cooking Class
Students enrolled in the winter program have been cultivating an appreciation for fresh ingredients. Each week the students are involved in meal prep and cooking of a delicious comfort food recipe. In class on Wednesday, the students learned how to chiffonade and to cut their meat against the grain to ensure it's tenderness. Putting a meal on the table together is hard work and the students conti nue to shine like "seasoned" professionals. After class on Wednesday the students voted and together decided "this is the best dish we've made so far".

SEF supporting enrichment programs that provide students with the confidence they need to succeed in life? We say YES!!
Understanding the Value of Partnerships & the Joy of Collaborative Efforts

SEF is committed to working closely in partnership with stakeholders and San Gabriel Unified School District administrators to provide financial resources in support of academic and enrichment educational opportunities for all students.

Striving to unite and inspire the PTA/PEP/PTSA leaders and the wider community at large, recently the foundation hosted a partnership planning mixer where SEF Board Members shared their mission, guiding principles, core values and goals with those in attendance. Additionally, the SGUSD Acting Superintendent Jim Symonds shared a presentation surrounding the Portrait of a Graduate.

It is apparent that all in attendance were and are thoroughly committed to the efforts of SEF and their individual school site communities. We will continue to plan collaboratively to increase and expand local revenue and fundraising activities to support the initiatives of the district.

Please contact the SEF office to join our efforts as we progress forward.  Together we can and will make a difference in the lives of every student at every grade level in the district!
