New SEL Roadmap for Reopening School 
Educators nationwide are preparing to welcome students and adults back this fall . To aid in this transition, CASEL collaborated with more than 40 partners to create an SEL Roadmap toward reuniting, renewing, and thriving in a new year, centered on relationships and built on the existing strengths of a school community.
Tool: Survey for T eaching Racially and Ethnically Diverse Students
Greater Good in Education developed a Teaching Tolerance   survey  for educators to reflect on their beliefs about racially and ethnically diverse students, as well as how those beliefs may impact their students. This tool also supports educators in planning action steps and promotes all five SEL competencies.
U.S. House of Representatives Proposes Funding Increase for SEL 
The House Appropriations Committee has released  proposed funding  for Fiscal Year 2021 that includes $172 million for SEL. The proposed bill would increase funding for SEL innovation grants, the Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED) program, the School Safety National Activities program, and funding for Full-Service Community Schools.
Tool: Build a Transition Coalition
Bringing together school staff, community partners, and families is a critical part of transitioning back to school this fall. This  tool  from the new SEL Roadmap outlines roles and considerations for identifying coalition members. 
16 SEL Programs Added to CASEL's Program Guide 
CASEL has been reviewing SEL programs since 2003. The CASEL Guide to Effective Social and Emotional Learning Programs identifies and rates well-designed, evidence-based SEL programs with potential for broad dissemination to schools.   • SELect is the highest designation, meaning the program met or exceeded all of CASEL's criteria: Second Step: Early Learning; Hallway Heroes; Incredible Years: Teacher Classroom Management Program; Changemakers (formerly ‘Settle Your Glitter’); Get Real Sex Education; The Leadership Project’s Violence Prevention Program; Conscious Discipline

  • Promising indicates a recommended program for quality SEL that met or exceeded most of CASEL's criteria: Connect Science; Wyman’s Teen Connection Project; SPARK: Speaking to the Potential, Ability, & Resilience Inside Every Kid; Captain McFinn: Explore Kindness; Growing Early Mindsets (GEMs)

  • SEL-related indicates a program or educational practice that is aligned with SEL and primarily emphasizes interpersonal or intrapersonal competenceInner Explorer; Sky Schools; BASE Education
