As of the primaries two nights ago, we now have our marching orders for the general election in swing states Pennsylvania and North Carolina!
In PA, we’ll need to elect outspoken LGBTQ+ activist and marijuana legalization advocate Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman to the Senate, and defeat either snake oil salesman Dr. Oz or hedge fund CEO David McCormick. In the Governor’s race, we’ll need to elect popular second-term Attorney General Josh Shapiro and defeat far-right Doug Mastriano, who not only participated in the January 6 Insurrection, and spent thousands of dollars to bus people in, but vows to invalidate his own state’s 2020 election results if elected.
And here’s what we’ve got to do to keep our Democratic majority in the US House. We need to re-elect representatives Susan Wild (PA-07) and Matt Cartwright (PA-08) and elect Chris Deluzio (PA-17) to fill Conor Lamb’s seat. To give the boot to insurrectionist Scott Perry (PA-10) and MAGA Republican Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), we need to elect Harrisburg City Councilmember Shamaine Daniels and veteran Ashley Ehasz.
Now for North Carolina! We’re thrilled that our candidate for US Senate is Former State Supreme Court Justice Cheri Beasley. To make her the state’s first Black senator, we’ll be helping her defeat MAGA Republican Ted Budd. As far as the US House, here are the Democrats we need to elect in swing districts:
6-term State Senator Don Davis (NC-01)
Incumbent Kathy Manning (NC-06)
5-term State Senator Ben Clark (NC-09)
2-term State Senator Wiley Nickel (NC-13)
4-term State Senator Jeff Jackson (NC-14)
What we have here is an incredible slate of Democratic candidates. Yet we also know the next five months will be the battle of a lifetime. A warning sign: in the PA primary, 178,000 more Republicans cast ballots than Democrats. A sign of hope: for the NC primary, there was stunning, record-breaking turnout, dwarfing the turnout in the last two midterms.

HATCH YOUR OWN
FIELD TEAM 6 CHAPTER!
With the make-or-break midterms five months away, there’s no better time to assemble your peeps into a new Field Team 6 chapter, come up with a name for your merry band of activists, and lead them to register Democrats and defend democracy!
Your group could be geographic — think FT6 Five Points Atlanta. It could be ethnic — FT6 Chinese-Americans for Democracy. Could be your fellow alums — FT6 Ohio State Buckeyes Blue. Your community might be tiny at first. That’s cool. As long as you’re engaging and registering people, you’re making a difference!
Field Team 6 makes it easy-peasy to get going. We have a calendar with upcoming events your chapter can join. We have training sessions and materials to get you started phonebanking, textbanking, postcarding, social storming, and doing in-person voter registration drives. And with FT6’s mountainous database, we might be able to create lists so you can contact and register members of your community, laying the foundation for victory in November. Help us defend our Senate majority, our House majority, our democracy itself.

URGENT CALL TO ACTION:
HOLD A PRIDE DRIVE IN JUNE!
June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month – and Pride events are the number one events, BAR NONE, for registering Democrats. We need you, our hardiest volunteers, to get out there with a friend or 10 and register Democrats. Especially in our 9 target states: AZ, CA, FL, GA, NC, NV, PA, TX and WI!
Find everything you need to set up your own voter drive in Voter Drive in a Box, and please email helpmydrive@fieldteam6.org with any questions at all. And here’s just one of many Pride Event Calendars you can find online. REMEMBER: people at Pride events are friendly, so it’s one of the most fun, rewarding places to register new Democrats. And the voters we register here could decide who wins in November!

RALLY – REGISTER – REPEAT
If you’re wondering whether Field Team 6 represented at Saturday’s Bans Off Our Bodies marches, the answer is a resounding HELL. TO. THE. YES. In 100 degree heat, we rubbed sweaty elbows with 50,000 other pissed-off Angelenos and, together, we got inspired by speeches from actors (this one was in LA, after all), we got steaming mad alongside Planned Parenthood president Alexis McGill Johnson, and we got motivation to keep fighting as political veterans Karen Bass and Maxine Waters proclaimed their commitment to never giving up and never backing down, no matter how bad the news sounds.
We also ran around with our clipboards, forms, and QR codes, and registered the #@$% out of some fired-up new Democrats. Marches and rallies are full of “friendlies” and, believe it or not, not all of them are registered. So the next time you want to feel inspired, pissed off, motivated and then accomplished, grab a clipboard, some registration forms, and some printed out QR codes HERE, and head to a march near you (extra points if you’re in a swing state)!

This meeting of like-minded folks will leave you feeling refreshed, regenerated, and with the tools you need to get back to full strength... so you can get back out there, and kick some a$$ from a place of joy as we head into the midterms!

VOL SHOUT-OUT: GREGG MILLMAN
|
|
Today the Field Team 6 Weekly honor squadron is skywriting a new name in the clouds: Gregg Millman, a tremendously talented writer who, among other volunteer activities, amps up our newsletter each and every week. We’re thrilled to express our gratitude, even if it’s with mere prose and not an actual Blue Angels flyover.
An erudite East Coaster, Gregg received a BA from Columbia University and then an MA in English Lit/Film Studies at the prestigious University of Chicago. He started on a PhD in Film, but stopped when MSNBC said, “Son, how’d you like to work in news?” Ironically, it was while working as a news producer that he fell in love with storytelling all over again.
Soon, Gregg was on his way to LA to make it as a screenwriter. (Check out One Crazy Cruise, a Nickelodeon family comedy, now streaming everywhere!) Like many creatives, Gregg jumped into advertising and has worked as a Copy Writer and Creative Director. And, somehow, he still found time to write a YA novel!
Gregg’s intro to Field Team 6 came via his long-time friend Sharon Lord Greenspan, our multi-hyphenate Czar of Most Things (Postcarding, Mobilize, Zoom, Newsletter), and it was just in time. As Gregg recounts, “The pain and agony of the Trump presidency plus the endless Covid lockdown triggered an all-too-common addiction to doomscrolling. But after OD’ing on hourly updates on the latest Trumpster fire, I decided to actually do something useful.”
Gregg started by textbanking for the 2020 election, continued on through the 2021 runoffs, and hasn’t looked back: “When we flipped both Senate seats in Georgia, I was elated and knew I needed to do more to help.”
“Saving democracy from the evil cabal known as the Republican Party,” as Gregg artfully puts it, is all-important. And with each new outrage—armed insurrection, denying climate change, stripping away women’s rights—it becomes more so. Of course, it’s also exhausting, but Gregg finds extra motivation in the form of his 12-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter. “I dread the thought that we’re handing them a failing democracy and dying planet. I truly hope we can stop both those things from happening.”
We can! And we are grateful and thrilled to have you fighting the good fight alongside us. We so appreciate your immense talent, and generous heart, both of which you channel into textbanking and social storming, as well as injecting passion, humor and art into this newsletter.
As this is your shout-out, we’ll let you have the last word, Gregg: “I’m honored to have the chance to write the weekly newsletter with a talented team and particularly my partner-in-crime, Tom Crehan, a powerhouse activist/writer. We try to get the latest news to FT6 volunteers without putting anyone to sleep. Hopefully we succeed. Unless you’re reading this with a bad case of doomscrolling-induced insomnia. Then may we bore you to sweet sleep.”
